bigger gas tank?

i'm wondering, has anybody here ever fitted a larger gas tank into their third gen?

i'm considering switching over to e85, but since it is not widely sold here in the netherlands, the stock gas tank just won't be enough to get anywhere. switching between regular gas and e85 won't be an option because of the intended cr.

Re: bigger gas tank?

E85 is somewhat of a joke (unless youre not doing it to save money). Its cheaper to buy but your MPG will also be lower.

Re: bigger gas tank?

not even, in my country e85 is just as expensive as regular gas because of taxes, but i want to supercharge my 383 stroker which has a cr of 1:10.7 NA

Re: bigger gas tank?

Possibly 32 gallon ATL fuel cell can be fitted with some work, needs cutting of the rear storage compartment floor and fitting it where the stock tank sits.

Government is a bunch of nutcases here, they tax E85 as consumption alcohol LOL

Re: bigger gas tank?

I wouldn't reccomend switching to E85. There's a reason SEMA is fighting it being required. IIRC, the water in the fuel can cause corrosion problems in our older systems.

Re: bigger gas tank?

i'm aware of corrosion problems but i intend to replace everything that's required to make it work, it's already an expensive project and i'm not going to cheap out on some fuel lines or hardened valves & valve seats if that's what it takes

Re: bigger gas tank?

Yeah, E85 gets the big thumbs down from me, I had a rental Impala with the Flexfuel option, and the reduced price of E85 was not enough to make up for the loss in mileage.

Re: bigger gas tank?

Not counting the MPG hit of using E85, there is no reason why someone can't produce a 20 or 22 gallon drop in fuel tank for our cars, which would allow more range and also less refueling stops if you participate in long term road races (that don't require a cell).

Re: bigger gas tank?

I'm in the same situation as you I guess. My TA-84 doesn't see much road and is already running on E85, quite high compression and turbo - I have yet to fit the intercooler. E85 is doing a wonderfull job and I haven't seen any indications of knocking problem. I have however seen some rust coming out of the fuel filter so I'm now looking into rebuilding the whole fuel supply system.

Would love to get a gas tank suitable for E85 without rebuilding a lot of the car.

Re: bigger gas tank?

it is very likely that i will buy one of these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ABT-SP132A/ and have someone hack up the cargo area to make it fit instead of the stock tank

Re: bigger gas tank?

real hard to do because of the physical requirements, just have others have said you'd have to cut up the "trunk" area to fit a larger fuel cell or tank.

Re: bigger gas tank?

ColinJ, How much is gained by switching to a 4th gen tank? And will the 3rd gen fuel pump and still work with it?

It's only a couple gallons, but it is lighter and better baffled. You have to use a grand prix sender so the signal is correct, and third gens and 4th gens use the same pump.

Re: bigger gas tank?

When you say use a grand prix sender, what specific one are you talking about? Do you have a part number or grand prix year?

Too generic of a statement. All 3rd & 4th gens are NOT the same.
