Power Door Locks

I have searched around but I have not found a sure fire way to "renew" the power door locks, I usually have to hit the unlock or lock buttons 4-5 times before it goes the whole way, does anyone know how to renew the actuators or anything?

Re: Power Door Locks

Many people have written about taking off the door inner panel and cleaning and lubricating the shafts and actuators, etc. Here's on thread about it. Searching should turn up more.

Re: Power Door Locks

Often the problem is slop that developes in the connecting joints. You can invest in the new plastic joints or wrap them with a zip-tie to take up the slop.

Re: Power Door Locks

Well I have finished renewing my door locks and found that all of the plastic clips were new from the previous owner, but the mechanism just needed a good oiling and a rod was bent in one of the doors which was jamming it up, thanks for all your help!

Re: Power Door Locks

On the little pivots that the lock actuator pushrods connect to there are springs that center them up, if you remove them it improves the movement of the locks quite a bit, and I never found any adverse effects.

Re: Power Door Locks

I put new motors, and cleaned and lubricated the lock mechanism. I took the whole mechanism out and soaked it in degreaser and then lubed the mechanism with white lithium grease. I probably didn't need new motors but I figured it was all apart and the motors aren't big money. Anyway - the locks work like new now. I think all the old crud has to be cleaned out for the locks to work properly.
