am i crazy???
i know this may sound stupid to some but i was wondering if anyone has ever tried to make the power bulges on the 91-92 Z28 hood functional....i know they were just cosmetic but i was thinking about doing that to get the hot air out from underneath the hood without putting on a boring cowl hood....it would be kinda different

um it hink that the way the scoops are shaped it shouldn't be a problem.....even if they were open the rain would have to go backwards to hit the air cleaner......it should be alright..i was just wondering if anyone has thought about doing it before...or if anyone knows how i could do it..........

just an idea but maybe you could cut a few holes..we can call them power holes
and run tubes from them to under the car so the rain can get out...but that still defeats the purpose of getting heat out...*thinks (too lazy to hit backspace
).....hmm..here..instead of putting tubes in..just get a material to cover where the holes would be and sorta have the material eventually fold into funnels that lead out of the bottom..that way heat escapes and u still have SOME rain protection..would be hard tho

do you know how the front of the scoops go over the back part.....and the back goes into the underside of the front....that opening that would be made would exit just in front of the air cleaner....if your still with me i think that what i said in my previous post would let the rain clear the air cleaner by dumping it in front of it, or right on top of it....either way the rain isnt going to get inside the engine......and thats fine with me i dont care if it does get inside the engine compartment.just not the engine....
my question was not wether it was rain proof but wether or not it would be an effective way to get cold air in OR get hot air out.........either one works for me

there is a white 91 camaro Z28 supercharged that did this. i dont remember his name. but i do know that is was a very clean mod. and he put screens in there so not crap could go down there.
do a search. and try and find. i dont know if you will be able to .. but it was really neat.
and i thought about buying an RS hood and putting real louvers in it. but i dont think i am going to do it. it would cost to much. and i could buy an aftermarket hood for that much. but have fun man.

I think it's a good idea and I wouldn't worry about the rain unless you drive in reverse everywhere you go. I do agree with RARE-ROC-Z I'd probably put some screens in there to keep leaves, critters, and etc. out. Just paint them black so they wont be noticeable.

Yah, but your not always driving forward. While the car sits, which is how it spends most of its time, the rain will collect. I have been in several debates about this, we thought about doing something like what 4thgen ram air setups do, which is put sheet metel under it and guide away, and several more ideas. We ultimatly decided that it would act more like a engine compartment cooler as it realeases heat. But thats just our outcome...

no the way the scoops are shaped the water wouldn't puddle up any where...when it's just sitting there it would run down and exit in front of or on top of my OE air cleaner....the way the top of the air cleaner is it would roll off and not be a problem
