Convertable

The Convertables were made from T-Top cars right... so therefore i could get my own covertable by buying a t-top camaro and performing the chop-top covertable method. Anyone know the prices on this. (I doubt I will do it, but i am just curious)

huh? could you explain a little better? convertibles were from the factory from 87-92. an outside company made them into convertibles prior to that, and assume they still do. someone else should be able to help you out a little better

no...Convertibles are made from Convertible cars...the T-top cars use the bar for structural support and removing the T-top bar would result in SERIOUS sagging of the lower body, kinked doors if you manage to open them and shortly...a floorboard that reaches the ground...permanantly.
Subframe connectors might help you, but recommend avoiding the t-top cut method.

I think the cars were t-top cars that were sent out to get converted. They add support in the front of the quarters, right behind the doors. They also add a steel beam on the outside, right behind the ground effect. Ir you could find a wrecked convertible, it could work, but to buy all the pieces, and put one together would be way to much $$$$$
All the parts that are special for the convertible, cost way to much. But imo it could be done.

OK, so you want a convertible. Two ways to go about it. Cut off the top off your t-top car. Weld the doors shut. Enjoy it for the Summer. Come Winter, throw it away (by then the frame will be bent anyway). Better way, sell the t-top car and buy a convertible. Trust me, there are too many differences between the models and extra reinforcing that would need to be added. Many of these parts sell at a PREMIUM, because convertible guys need them for their own restorations and repairs and so few were created in the first place.

Yeah, in '89 ASC took GTA fw/ t-tops from the factory and cut the top off and made them convertibles. Choo Choo Customs also did it to IROCS.
It can be done and was done from the factory and that is what I plan on doing to my car.
