Headlights Only go up with a bit of help
Hello every one I just picked up a 90 Firebird yesterday the kid I got it from parked it 5 years ago and hasn’t touched it since. I got it home got it running but there are some things that are not working one of witch is the headlights. You push the button the lights turn on the motors spin ( you can see the **** spinning ) but the lights stay down. If you give the lights a little bit of help when the motor is spinning they will pop up. If you spin the ***** manually same thing they just sit there unless you lift up while turning the **** then they will go after a couple turns. Going down Is no issue once they are up. Do you guys think both sides stripped the gears out or is it just from sitting out side for so long

NOPE........
The headlight motor gears have turned to dust and need to be replaced.
Several DIY kits are avail. to rebuild them.
Somebody will chime in here with their recommendations.

Lon has a kit that has just the bushings. He also sells the gaskets to seal the motors.
He also sells them both as a kit that comes with new grease, which is what I used.

I have seen him post on this forum before I always try to support businesses that are active with in the forums. Looking at his website I see he also has pull down motor kits which I also need. I’ll give him a call my next pay check

Re: Headlights Only go up with a bit of help
Picture of my headlight motor when pulled apart. The crumbled bits and pieces used to be three cylindrical bushings. Once that structure is lost then the headlight motor can no longer transfer torque to move the headlights. Stuff just got old and crumbled.
