Re: Z28?

If it doesn't have Z28 as one of the prominent codes on the body tag, it's not a Z28. The VIN will only tell you if the car is a Camaro (with or without Z28) or a Berlinetta. The LG4 305/700r4 was available on the base Camaro Sport Coupe, and Berlinetta in addition to the Z28. The other V8s were Z28 only, but it's easier to check the body tag then to decode the VIN, and you didn't specify which 305 the car has. Check the body tag, quick and easy.

Re: Z28?

If you say so, that'd be news to me, but 99% of the thirdgens I've been around were produced after the body tag was discontinued.

Re: Z28?

Z28 will not be on the tag [edit: of a Van Nuys car]. Your best clues will be how the GFX are attached and if they appear original to the car, including front and rear bumper covers mismatched paint, poor fit, welding on side GFX supports and studs). Also look for the right fender to cowl brace and left fender liner to frame rail brace. And there will be triangle braces [edit: from the K member and inside of frame rails].

This is a pic of the tag on the radiator support on my '83 Z28 (Z28 located below the left mounting rivet). Mine is a Norwood assembled car, so not sure if yours will be the same or not.

Check this website for help decoding your '83

Re: Z28?

NO RPO list? In console or rear compartment to look at?
Confirm it right there!

Re: Z28?

My 82 Z28 does not have Z28 printed on the radiator support tag, it is also a Van Nuys, California car build.

it is a 305 manual 4 speed, I believe California cars does not included
