painting engine bay
painting engine bay
Hey guys!
well my engine is out of my car and i'm about to paint the engine bay. I was thinking of just spraying it semi-gloss black, what do you guys think?
should I paint the firewall polo green metallic same color as my car? I don't have access to spray gun or anything so it will be spray cans unfortunately. anyone have good luck with using these? I figure 3-4 light coats of the paint followed by 3-4 light coats of clear should work.
Not looking for show quality here just want to clean everything up
any tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated... i'm doing this tomorrow afternoon so q uick responses would be SWEET.
Thanks guys,
Garett

I think you should paint the engine bay the same color as the car even if it is from spray cans.
As far as tips, everything has to be clean. When you think it is clean, clean it again. I like to use POR 15 Marine Clean whenever I paint anything.
When using spray paint, use many light coats instead of fewer heavy coats and a 50% overlap. Follow the directions on the can as far as what temperature and distance and such to spray in/from.
Make sure your surface is "prepped" before spraying, which means if the paint on there is good, just degloss or scuff it to give the new paint a place to "bite". If it is bare metal, acid etch it with Metal Prep or use an etching primer.
For a high, high gloss finish, put on your primer coats, sand with 400grit, then topcoat with color.
Good luck
