You know this is great! I've been kicking the idea around of the reverse opening hood for a while and couldn't come up with an answer. I was stumped because on my 79 vette the front of the hood dipped down into the engine compartment when it opened. I wasn't able to think outside the box! I'll have to see if I can find those hinges in my local junkyard. Thanks!

Hey guys!

I’ve been flipping through here noticing a lot of talk about the LaSaber hinges to do this mod. Since I’m currently working on this same mod with those very parts I thought I’d share a bit of what I’ve noticed.

The way the LaSaber is, the hood pops up first, more than enough to manually put your headlights down if they get suck, then it slides forward about eight inches. This is also very close to the maximum amount that the T/A hoods can slide without scraping the fender walls. After that she tilts forward. From what I’ve seen so far, close to the nose piece – but not hitting it.

As far as the hinges go, you can use them as the come off the LaSaber. The bad news, you have to place them below the fender/inner fender wall seam or cut the hood supports to make enough room for the height clearance. Also, if you want to use the LaSaber latching mechanisms (you need to in the front to avoid scraping the nose piece) you cutting and welding skills better be in order.

As are all project, this one is doable, but you better have a lot of self- confidence, ingenuity and a car you don’t mind messing with. Otherwise, get a good job and call a professional! (which is what I would do if I wasn’t so cheap and lazy! =)
