If you want to keep your current rearend gear ratio, this is the best solution. If you want to upgrade gears as well as brakes I'd look into getting a whole rear but good third gen rears along with PBR disc brakes are getting impossible to find.

PBR makes a load of calipers for many cars:

With these plates you can fit the good rear discs from '89-97. You can also swap to '98-02 LS1 rears but they're a bit different and won't work with these plates.

Can I just get these backing plates from an 89-97 f-body at a junkyard? I thought 89-97 had the rectangle flange instead of square like ls1?

Not the drum rears, just the disc rears. These are not stock plates.

Long post lost.
11.6 or 12" rear rotors are plenty big.
I used to lock up the rear PBRs on stock discs every lap when racing, but 12" or 13" fronts w PBRs or C5 calipers is the way to go!!

A good track or combo pad will make a world of difference in brake performance.
I won't ever go back to stock or greenstuff type pads even for street use in my F Body

can I get PBR (J65?) brakes from a v6, or is it just a certain model?

oh, and will the backing plates for 9 and 10 bolt be the same? or are they all 10 bolt that have pbrs?

V6 cars didn't get rear discs, only the Z28s/ higher end models got them.

9 and 10 bolt disc plates are dimentionally the same but will have a different bolt pattern, I have plates for both. All drum plates will be the same either way. The '89 9 bolts were the only 9 bolts to get PBRs, all rear discs from '89-92 got the PBRs, both 9 and 10 bolt.

one more question, does it make a difference whether the caliper is behind or in front of the rotor? I was wondering if I could use these plates on opposite sides putting the caliper in front in case I have shock clearance issues as with LS1 brakes.

Ed could I get a price on yor plates too. Will they work with the rotors and calipers off the 93 - 97 on the third gen camaro? Also which e-brake cables do you have to get 82-92 or 93 - 97? I have a friend that has a complete 94 rear I could get for brake parts.

Well, after some research it appears I will have shock interference with my g-body. I need to find a relocation bracket if I use this setup. I'll post back in a few days.

Do you have staggerd shocks or something? Can you use two same side calipers, depending on where your interference is?

I was ready to go ahead and order these, but noticed something else. how does this kit accomodate the step in the mounting flange? wouldn't the conversion plate bend when tightened down?

What gears do you currently have? I don't want to dissuade you from anything that Ed has to offer, but you might consider looking for a complete 4th gen LT1 rear (3.23 for some autos or 3.42 for some manual transmissions) and grab the proportioning valve and e-brake cables off the car as well. This would be a direct swap and you'd get the added benefit of the possible higher gear ratio. Or sell your car and buy an TPI/LT1/LS1 Just my

A agree..a rearend swap may be the ticket for you if you can find one close. I just sold a 3.23 4th gen rear and I still have a 2.73 posi disc rear but I'll assume you'll want better gearing than that one.
