Re: Cheap Proportioning Valve Upgrade

I've got a 4 pack of 1NCF2 springs left. First person to quote me can have them for free. I'll even pay for shipping. My only requirement is that they take 1 spring and return the favor to someone else here until there are no more left. If i don't see you on here later that's bad karma! US only, please.

Also - Does anyone have a 1NCR5 spring?

When you say 19lbs spring, are you reffering to the 1NCR5 spring? Did you actually test it out, was it not effective enough? I installed the stronger 1NCF2 Spring (22lbs) and noticed a huge difference - but its a bit too much. The rears will sometimes lock up before the fronts. Its not SO bad, but i was curious to try the 19 lb 1NCR5 spring out.

If you're interested in the 1NCF2 springs - talk to the people above - they're all in line to getting free ones and there should still be 1 or 2 more left.

A little update. I have been running the 1NCR5 spring in my car now for little over two years. It has worked out real well even when driving in the rain.

Re: Cheap Proportioning Valve Upgrade

Hmmm. Experiencing violent axle hop at heavy braking at higher speed. I may be swapping my 22lb spring out and going back to the stock one to see if this cures the axle hop.

Re: Cheap Proportioning Valve Upgrade

Hello all, I noticed that this thread is still going on and every here and there I get a message asking if I still have some of the springs. I don't recommend this modification very much. I notice it works for some and not others and in my case, did not work for me.

I got to pluming and threading my brake lines and got it done the right way, the adjustable brake regulator is the safest way to go.

Anyways here is a conversation I had with geoffz28 a while back:

Hmm. That kinda makes me have second thoughts. Let me think about this one... I think the adj valve is the best way to go though for sure. Im kinda leaning towards that after your story there, plus I really dont want to deal with flynbye for a 1le valve... Any idea what # spring the one you put in there was that you were finally able to lock the rears?

Well... no the springs from grainger never fixed the problem with my rear brakes working after doing the same swap you did....

I still have 2 springs left I beleive... its always worth a try but after my attempt I wouldnt recommend it for anyone.

I can tell you what did "fix" the problem though.

I went to orchard supply and purchased a really heavy duty spring and threw it in the prop. valve.

NOW the rears lock before the fronts do... :/
(I was street racing the other day and spun my car out 360 deg. because the rears locked before the fronts did. luckily I only ended up in a flat dirt field...)

So... You could try experimenting until you get the correct spring that locks your rears right after the fronts lock or you could do what I'm going to do and purchase an adjustable combo valve which I NOW see as the best and safest way to go lol.[/quote]

Re: Cheap Proportioning Valve Upgrade

Just dropped $25 at grainger for the 19lb spring - need it ASAP. I will post a comparison of the 19lb to the 22lber. My opinion is the 22lb is a bit too much. Its not bad at all - the brakes themselves feel great at normal to moderate braking. But if you're doing any sort of track days/events I feel its a bit overkill - you'll roast the rears and get the occasional axle hop. Also very easy to get yourself into a spin when the rears engage that quickly. Hopefully the 19lb steps it down a bit.

I'll have 4 19lbs springs after this. If anyone wants the whole pack of 4 i can ship it out quick - a reasonable donation would be appreciated. :P

Re: Cheap Proportioning Valve Upgrade

What is the stock spring rate for the PBR equipped cars? Are the 19's you have any better? I noticed in the first post he was talking about 30's. That's quite a difference from 19's.

Stock spring rate is something like 10 from what I recall. I think there are only two other options mentioned in here - 22lb and 19. I've got some 19s coming in on Monday - but veaceonee already claimed them. Talk to him and see if he can send the remaining 3 out.

No offense. But you have now probably spent enough where you could have just done it correctly and installed an adjustable prop valve and tuned it perfectly.

I love tinkering as well, but for $40 why bother with trial and error on different springs?

Trying to avoid cutting the factory lines. Unless someone can point me to a bolt on adjustable prop valve?

Re: Cheap Proportioning Valve Upgrade

Finished the 1NCR5 change, did not work for me. Can lock the fronts (I have LS1 upgrade) but the rears do not lock. Going to the adjustable valve then.

Sure you got all the air out of the lines? Both springs locked up the rear tires with enough pedal pressure for me. I also have ls1 calipers up front and factory discs in the rear.

Well I vac'd a whole can of fluid thru the rears to get clean fluid out. I bled my LS1's the same way so I think I've got the bleeding down.

Well, assuming the rear calipers aren't seized go ahead and try out the adjustable valve, it's the better solution anyway.

PM me yr addr and I'll drop one in the mail to you.

Would like to know if it works for you as it did not for me. I've got to do some basic rear brake test to see if maybe my calipers are siezed but when I put in new pads the c-clamp pushed the piston back in no prob. Maybe it's not coming back out...

The C-clamp is for the front brakes only. The rear needs to be screwed in.

Re: Cheap Proportioning Valve Upgrade

I did this mod. Can't tell if it actually worked or not. Went to bleed the rear brakes, nothing but air. What I can say is my car stops a WHOLE lot better now.

Thank you for the feedback! Which spring rate/part # did you use?

It's helpful and much appreciated if people can add this info to their post so that we can track the part #/spring rate and the results-thanks!
