Brake fittings for prop-valve install.

Brake fittings for prop-valve install.

I'm installing an allstar prop valve since my rear brakes barely stop even with the stiffer spring. Does anyone know where I can get a fitting that will go from the 6mm rear brake line to 1/8"-27 NPT male? I'm certainly going to have to cut the rear line and flare it since pretty much nobody makes the 6mm line with bubble flares. Any other advice with installation would be appreciated as well.

Well, assuming it fits the prop valve they found a 1/8" NPT to 1/4" inverted flare fitting. Since 6mm is ever so slightly smaller than 1/4" will I be able to just use a 1/4" nut and flare the 6mm line?

The NAPA by me had those conversion fittings, I bought a bunch when I installed my line lock. But that was 20 years ago.

You will just have to try it. 6mm = .236, 1/4" = .250 It's close.

The conversion fittings to go to a 6 mm fitting? They guy I happened to get didn't seem particularly knowledgeable so they may have had them.

Yeah, it seems that knowledgeable parts counter people also went the way of the dinosaur. And I'm talking about 20 years ago - even worse now.

Well I found the fittings I needed. However I can say 100% without a doubt that I cannot use the cheap SAE double flaring kit to flare that 6mm line. Tried wrapping it in foil, duct tape, and copper wire but nothing keeps it from slipping. I'm going to try and source a metric flaring kit from Autozone or somewhere tomorrow but I'm not confident that one of those will even flare the line. These are some tough lines it seems. As the very last resort I can try lapping the surfaces on my rented tool (meaning I have to buy it) to get it to clamp down tight enough to keep it from slipping. And of course I didn't bring a second car and I'm an hour and a half away from work so I'm hosed there. The joys of using your classic car as your daily.
