What is a 1LE
For those who don’t know, 1LE is a showroom stock racing package you could order on the Camaro in certain years. For 1991, there were 478 1LE’s produced. Of that total, only 289 were built with the 305/T-5 transmission combination.
What makes this car so special?
This car currently has just under 5,000 original miles. The car looks like it just came out of a time capsule. The interior, paint and underneath still look immaculate.
The history of this car starts in June of 1990. The first owner ordered the car at Tony Perry Chevrolet in Wadsworth, Ohio. Paid cash for it. The owner was and still is a well known CEO of a major corporation in the northeast Ohio area. As a hobby, he was into SCCA racing. He is now the Owner/Driver of the MGD Racing in the Historic Sportscar Racing Series. He ordered this car to compete in the local SCCA scene. He ran the car for 2.5 years before putting the car in climate controlled storage. He ran the car at Watkins Glen, Mid Ohio, and Road Atlanta. When he put the car in storage, it wasn’t brought out until May of 2004. It sat in a large warehouse, mostly untouched and out of the sunlight for 10 years. The car was never titled all of those years. It was used strictly for racing the first 2.5 years of its life. This car was never in any wrecks or “rubs”. The body is all original, with factory paint. This car never even had a drop of touch-up paint applied. This CEO owns a vast amount of cars, and this car was for the most part forgotten in the warehouse.
When the car was purchased new, the owner removed the original drivetrain when it had 3 miles on it and ran a more high performance motor. When he sold the car, the original drivetrain was put back in. The car is matching numbers throughout. The car looks as if it was untouched from the factory for the most part. The reinstallation of the engine was immaculate. The rims and tires were removed when new also. This is the original Goodyear Gatorbacks that it rolled off the showroom floor with.
Also when the car was new, a 10 point roll cage was added. This was professionally welded into the car and is a top notch job. It looks as if it could have come from the factory that way.
Documentation
This car is incredibly documented. I have every piece of paper that ever came with this car. Just to name a few: I have the window sticker, order form from the dealer, a paper similar to (but not) a modern COPO order form specifying certain options to be installed on the car, the paperwork from the shipper when the car arrived at the dealer, build sheet, original owners manual, and many other documents.
Yes, I drive the car
This car is a dream to drive. It still feels incredibly tight and brand new. It is like a time capsule finally awaken after 10 years. I bought the car to drive it. Granted, I do not abuse it in any way, but I do enjoy it. I have driven it about 1000 miles since I purchased it a year ago. This car was driven on the last leg of the 2005 Hot Rod Power Tour with no problems.
Does this car have any problems?
This car spent the first 2.5 years of it’s life being raced until it was retired at around 2,500 miles. It was never wrecked. However, it did have huge sticky road racing tires on it. Behind both fenders and both rear quarters are some rock chips in the paint. You can’t see them walking up to the car, but can up close. The front end has some rock chips too from the close racing and sand from the track. Again, you can’t see it walking up to the car, but when you get up real close you can see it.
Does the car have any non-factory items on it?
• Spring wedge adjusters were added to the front suspension when the car was new
• A Vintage Air aftermarket A/C unit was installed. It is the Gen II supercompact unit. Everything mounts underneath the dash, to keep under the hood clean. It would be easy for future owners to remove this unit and return it to stock.
• The previous owner replaced the injectors because he thought they were clogged due to sluggish performance, but it didn’t help. It ended up being the fuel pump. I have the original injectors still in a box.
That is all! The rest is completely original.
Was the car maintained?
I have owned the car for about a year now. I have meticulously maintained this car and corrected items that needed to be addressed. I have replaced all of the fluids with Royal Purple synthetic fluids. I have replaced the faulty fuel pump (after sitting for 10 years) with the correct GM goodwrench 1LE spec fuel pump with double strainer. This car looks, runs, and drives awesome.
Will you sell the car?
Unfortunately the time has come in my life where I have to part with my dream car. My family has grown and would like to get a toy with a backseat. I have seen several sub 10k mile 1LE’s being sold in the mid to low $20K range. I am not a dealer or collector, I am just a common guy who unfortunately (for me, good for some one looking ) has to sell a very nice car. I am in no hurry, nor do I need to sell it, so bargain hunters can look elsewhere.

Do a search on ebay motors for a 1990 1LE and get ready to be floored by the pictures as well as the price it's sitting out. Both are impressive.

Drivetrain?
When the original owner removed the Drivetrain to go racing, exactly what part of the original drivetrain was removed for racing? The Motor and what else..... Was the original tranny, drive-shaft, rear-end removed???
I see some of the roll cage was cut-out, how many bars were cut?

A couple of the bars were cut out of the back area to try to get the back seat back in. What you see by the driver's seat is a latch used for a swinging door bar that was leagal at the time in SCCA to make it easier to get in and out of. I have heard this is no longer legal, so you would have to weld in a new bar, if you wanted to take it back on the track. I didn't because I didn't want to destroy a nice car with low miles on the track.
The motor and trans were taken out was the information that I got. They both look immaculate.
As far as the door bumpers, I have no idea. This is the way that I bought it.
Here is a pic of the door bar latch, also a pic of the window sticker and build sheet

RPO B84, 95236 were built with them and 5602 w/o the bodyside moldings, if it isnt listed then the option was in a group of options offered by Chevy that year, 4 Z28 coupe groups were offered.

I am completely surprised that I just saw this car end on ebay. It didn't sell because it only got bid up to $8,100. Esp. when a 91 z28 with 45k miles sold for 9,000 yesterday.

The car has been reduced to $13,000.
The wheels and tires have less than 1000 miles on them, and are still in like new condition. I paid $2100 for these, will let them go for $1500 shipped. Here are the specs on the wheels/tires:
Billet Specialties GTX 65 wheels
front- 17x8 w/ 4.5" backspacing
rear- 17x9.5 w/ 5.5" backspacing
Nitto NT555
front- 245/45/17
rear- 275/40/17
For those wondering how much for the car and both sets of wheels/tires:
I will take $250 off the price of the wheels, so it would be $14,250 for the car and both sets of wheels/tires.
Here are pics of the option code sticker and build sheet:

No nuts are accepted for trade, but we might be able to work something out on the girlfriend! Just kidding, I don't think my wife would go for it.
But seriously, no nuts required, only $11,500.

Hi,
I'm the guy that sent you the e-mail a few days ago. I'll probably give you a call tonight about the car. Looks great on those sportlines, are they still available? I posted in the "appearance" section to see if anybody know's where my dad's old ride is, but right now the outlook on finding it is slim...
During the week I'm usually working and in the field (no phones in the field), but on the weekends I'm free. Are visitations of the car possible?
