1986 ASC McLaren Z-28 Convertible #0041

1986 ASC McLaren Z-28 Convertible #0041

I am selling my project car because I'm no longer able to work on it due to disability. I've had this car for over 15 years and has been sitting in pieces, in my garage, for the last 8. It is VERY much a project in progress. It has TONS of parts, probably 1.8 cars worth, since I parted out my pristine 89 just for this car. I am NOT willing to part this car out, you would be buying the entire project, and get ready for a LOT of stuff. Bring plenty of help and a couple of trailers.
I want a decent offer for everything in the neighborhood of $3500. This is a steal considering there are two cars worth of parts here, a bizillion aftermarket goodies, the rarity of the car, etc. (Actually, mention you saw this here and I'll even knock off a few hundred)
BTW the aftermarket goodies are almost all off the car because they came off of my 89, so if you wanted to sell them separately, put them on some other car, whatever, it's easy to do.

So, THE GOOD:
- Rare factory convertible. 87 was the first official year for 'verts. This car is #41 of a run of prototype cars done to test the waters for convertibles.
- Still has original motor and transmission, 305TPI/700R4
- Two sets of wheels, 15" Cragar Centerline-style wheels, and 17" ROH Snypers, big fat 275mm tires
- Fiberglass SS hood, and fiberglass Z28 spoiler with LED brake light
- Wiring harness with all options, power mirrors, seats, rear defroster, fog lights, etc.
- Python alarm system with remote-start, remote power window open/close, remote trunk pop, etc.
- '79 350 4-bolt main block, virgin and seasoned, ready for the start of a build
- Holly StealthRam intake manifold, fuel rails, Accel 30# fuel injectors (sized for a 383, that was the plan with the block)
- An extra complete TPI intake system
- Intellitronix digital gauge cluster conversion and pillar gauges with tach and AFR gauge
- B&M ratchet shifter
- Grant steering wheel
- Two sets of interior seats
- Polyurethane bushings everywhere, extra sway bars
- Koni adjustable shocks, Eibach lowering springs, SSM subframe connectors
- Dynamax 3" catback system, Monza quad tips, Jet-Hot coated exhaust cutout
- Jet-Hot coated SLP headers
- Random parts from the 89
- And entire aftermarket stereo system. I used to dominate the sub-300 watt classes with this setup back in the day
- Kenwood head unit, Clarion speakers, custom fiberglass box with Kenwood 10" subs, Kenwood amps
- Service manuals (the fat GM ones, in addition to the crappy Haynes ones)
- Tons of printouts, notes, magazines
- The body is straight, the convertible top bows are too
- There is so much more I'm shitting myself thinking about it. I'll probably be calling you for weeks afterwards finding things around the house that you should have gotten with the car that I forgot about.

THE BAD:
- The motor in it has a spun bearing. I didn't care because I was building a 383 to replace that weakling 305 anyway.
- The transmission is shot. I didn't care because I was going to put a 6-speed manual in there.
- It will need a complete upholstery job (seats, carpet, doors...) because of the next thing...
- The top needs to be replaced. It's terrible.
- There's a little rust here and there. Small spots, that were going to be addressed by the next thing...
- It needs to be painted. It's a lacquer job put on there by a guy whose nickname is "Runs". And it has scratches from storage.
I didn't care because I was going to paint it black like my 89 was.

So, check out the pics, and give me a PM if you are SERIOUS about buying the WHOLE package and want to come check it out.

Added. Sorry about that! I had posted it in a few different places at the same time and just missed it because I had copypasta'd.

Thank yoy for pictures. Do you have original console with RPO codes that match this car? Curious what options it had originally and color codes.

I have the original console, but it is devoid of the sticker.

It was repainted, but in the original color, blue over gold, although not the correct shade of blue, and I think there were supposed to be stripes along the bottom.

Car is sold. Please close thread.

I did sell only the car though, so I'm entertaining offers on any of the aftermarket parts listed.
