1991 camaro convertible
I have decided to sell my 1991 camaro convertible. It is hard to list all the upgrades to this car, but here are some of them. The engine is a crate LS3 installed and dyno tuned in August of 2018. It made 368 HP to the wheels. That would be about 440 to 450 at the crank. It has about 4,000 miles on it. The engine was installed using a fourth gen oil pan including an IMPROVED RACING trap door oil pan baffle.Fourth gen camaro exaust manifolds exit to a custom system. The accessory drive[AC,power steering and alt.] is from KWIK PERFORMANCE. The transmission is from a 2011 camaro and is a 6L80 six speed automatic. A tap shift switch from SPEARTECH allows for manual shifting including rev match. A custom drive shaft leads to a custom built ford 8.8 rear end,3.31 gears with a TORSEN t2r limited slip. The fuel system starts with a stock tank with a racetronic in tank pump and a remote fuel pump relay. New stock style hard lines run to an under hood AEROMOTIVE fuel pressure regulator with braided lines to the fuel rail. SPOHN subframe connectors have been added to stiffen the chassis and QA1 ajustable shocks and struts improve ride and handling while allowing adjustments in both. The front brakes are C4 corvette HD 13 inch cross drilled rotors while the back brakes are 12 inch LS f-body with cross drilled rotors. As the pictures show the car is white/red hood stripe with very nice red leather interior. The wheels are C5 corvette repo's 18/9.5 with nearly new 275/40/18 tires. This car was one of SUPER CHEVY'S editors choice cars at the 2013 LS fest . It was also pictured in HOT ROD magazine, and took second place in modified at THIRD GEN EXPO. There are more details that I could give you over the phone or in person. The car is in storage near Elkhart Lake Wi. but can be viewed at any time Storage is paid untill 4/1/19

Awesome car, how did you get the transmission to fit? I have heard many people talk about major fitment issues regarding the newer bigger transmissions?

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
I did have to cut and raise the tunnel 1.5 inches. I have posted pictures in another thread. I then cut 1.5 inches horizontally from the side of the console where is carpeted, I plastic welded the two pieces back together and trimmed the carpet to fit and glued it back down. That reduced the double din radio opening down to a single din. Even the third gen owners don't see that it has been altered. I used the stock shifter with a Speartech tap shifter switch to the right of the steering column for manual shifting. I will be bringing the car home for storage in the next week or two if anyone would like to take a look at it. kestell123

How many miles are on the car? More pics?? Does the AC and everything work? Cruise, etc? Thanks

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
Everything , including cruise and Ac work . Mileage is high, about 195,000 but there are so few original parts on the car that is kind of irrelevant. This is not something I would want to do to a low mileage car . What additional pictures would you like?

Undercarriage pics? I assume the stripes are vinyl? Any prior rust at all? How old is the paint?

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
I will get it on a lift for pics of the under side. Stripes are vinyl .Paint was done in 2011 ,nose and front spoiler were redone 3 years ago. The leading edge of the hood had a spot that the owner of the shop "an old school guy" said he leaded, there has been no reoccurrence. He also said he found surface rust under the trunk lid spoiler. It might take a day or two to get it on a lift for pics.

Couldn't find a drive-on lift so you have to look past the lift components

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
I would say "come take it for a drive" But your area code is 1500 miles away . A crate LS3 is almost $7,000 the trans over $2,000 Hawks 8.8 rear end $3000 plus. Then start to think about wiring harness, Ecm , tuning ,Brakes , Wheels ,Tires, drive shaft, adapters to make the tach and speedo work, $1500 accessory drive, custom exhaust. But you also have to have a car to start the build with, in this case $8000. Even If the value of my labor is canceled out by the fun I have had with the car, you can see that $19,000 is reasonable.. As far as I know this still the only completed third gen with a 6L80, and I have driven it as far west as Glacier national park, and Texas. East to New Jersey and Florida.

I know some prefer it, but for me wish it wasn't a convertible or I'd be counting my pennies 😪. Nice job on the build.

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
Nice job on your 3rd Gen. I have a '91 Z/28 and I am thinking of doing the LS swap with the 6L auto too. Trying to research it at the moment to see what is necessary for the swap. Looks like a lot of work but looking at yours it would be worth it. The 4L would be easier but it just seems like the LS should have the 6L. Thanks for sharing your build. Todd

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
If there is anything I can help with let me know. If you do a 6L80 don't over do the rear end gear. I started with with a 2.73 torsen in a ten bolt . Then I got greedy when I went to the 8.8 rear again with a torsen but 3.31 gears and that's really more gear than you need with the 6L80's 4 to 1 low gear . Don't get me wrong , it's fun but hard to get traction. Also consider a mild stall converter. I used a Circle D 2400- 2600 stall with lock up. In every day driving it feels stock but when you get on it you get right into the ls3 power band. You know you could save your self the work and buy mine!

Yes, I thought It was sold but the buyer does not seem to be serious. I hope to bring it to the Third Expo at the end of June And then I will put it on Bringatrailer. But yes I have it.

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
How does the buyer not seem to be serious? He got a quote for shipping and airfare and even a quote for insurance on said vehicle. It was said in the beginning that he was waiting on a settlement from an estate but it was taking longer than expected. This buyer sent him a signed title with a bill of sale with which he could have got a title of his own then reported the car stolen.
He said he would still offer $15k for the car if it is still available in July because after you factor airfare shipping hotel rental car to look at the vehicle then we are at the asking price.
Lets not forget that the seller put himself on the hook for the car when HE sent out the title. The buyer never asked for it..
Why has it beeon on here for 3 years with nearly no response???

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
First, this 'Buyer' did ask to send the title .Even sent me the NY. State tax form to fill out. The first time he said he would send money was in March. I repeatedly ask for a down payment while he waited for his father's estate to close ,none was sent. The agreement was I would send the title then he would send the money and then the car could be shipped . As for your idea of claiming it was stolen it does show me how you think but l have kept all of our correspondence so you would look pretty foolish. Your upset because after 3 months of your not committing to the purchase by putting money down I told you that I was going to put a For sale sign on it at Thirdgen Expo, a nice show by the way. The reason I said the 'buyer ' did not seem serious. Someone who was serious would have nothing to lose by making a down payment, no matter how large or small. So why no down payment?????

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
You stated in March that you where going to have the car shipped. That was your story until May 19 when you said you would fly here to drive it home.In the first 2 months you where saying you where going to buy it that was your plan. Remember, I should take you seriously because you went to all that trouble to get a shipping quote, that cost you nothing. In all that time you never once mentioned having it inspected, maybe because you were not serious enough to do something that would cost you money. You should not be surprised I came to believe you were not a serious buyer.

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
Last time we spoke you expected me to pay the tag, title, and tax on the vehicle before even setting eyes on it. Who does that? I asked you if you were going to leave the plates on it so I could drive it home and you stated that you expected me to bring plates with me...Does that make sense?
Unfortunately, every estate is different, and that means timelines can vary. A simple estate with just a few, easy-to-find assets may be all wrapped up in six to eight months. A more complicated affair may take three years or more to fully settle.

Nice how you passed right by the info about the estate, which this whole sale was hinging on. I told you from the beginning I was waiting for it and never wavered from that. Any other correspondence was also contingent on that. So There was never any false promises or claims on my part.
Here is the link I got that quote from. I told you it takes a while to settle these things.....

Re: 1991 camaro convertible
As the seller and with this little drama , i’d leave it up to first one to come down and buy it is who gets the car. If i really wanted a car this bad, i’d fly down or drive and that’d show i was serious and then talk out a plan for payment in person and test drive. Win win for both parties. If not i’d send someone down for me to check it out (if i really really want this car) . But it all depends on how serious you are and if the sale goes through, id knock down the cost of travel by plane for the buyer since they showed dedication within reason that is lol. idk 🤷🏻♂️
