[MO] 1989 Camaro RS Convertible

1989 Camaro RS Convertible
This car was for sale on eBay and was noticed by a member and posted in another section. I apologize if you saw the ad listed in the other section. I thought I should list it in the "for sale" section for anyone that is looking to buy a Camaro.
1989 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible
$12,000
The car is located in Kansas City, Missouri
This is what I believe is an original 1989 Camaro RS convertible with only 30,000 original miles. The title will confirm this. The paint is in good condition with just a few rock chips/scratches that have been touched up by a previous owner. They are minor, but they are there if you look real close. There is no rust. The underneath side is just as clean as the top side. The manual convertible top is in good shape, doesn't leak and works great.
The interior is in great shape. The items that usually deteriorate first are in good shape. The dash pad, center console and seat belt sleeves are not cracked. Carpet and floor mats are in good shape. It has all the original equipment including the radio that works. The air conditioner works great, and I had it converted to 134A. The car has power windows and locks and everything works as it should.
It has a 305 V-8 engine that runs well. It also has an automatic transmission that shifts like it should. With only 30,000 miles, the car is still tight and rides smooth. The tires are in like new condition.

Re: 1989 Camaro RS Convertible
Thank you for saying that. This is the nicest car that I've ever had trouble selling. I really think it's under-priced (of course I would say that, right?). I've had many thoughts....I could just keep lowering the price $100 a week until it sells, I could list it on BaT or other auction site, or I could stick it back in storage until next year and try again at a higher price. I am actually wondering if people will start thinking something is wrong with it since the price is so low. If I just keep lowering the price I feel like I'm giving it away and I don't need or have to do that. I'm not desperate to sell but at this price it's starting to make me feel that way. This car really has me baffled.
I know some people have said that it's plain, but I can't make a bunch of changes to a car this original. I will leave that to the next owner. In the meantime, they are starting with a low mileage, mostly original car that has not been all hacked up. People are always saying they can't find a low mileage, clean car that has not been molested and yet, here it sits. People say, I would be interested but it's too far away. I am located in Missouri in the center of the country.....not too far away from anything and yet, here it sits. People say they can't find a Camaro priced fairly and yet, here it sits.
Yes, you can probably find a car a little cheaper. But most of you know that it's all the little things that you have to fix that adds up. I've bought cheaper cars before and by the time I was done I had $20K in a car that was worth $10K. It just adds up so fast. I would rather spend a little more up front and get a nicer car that doesn't need as much. You are better off in the long run, but of course that is just my opinion.
Ok, done with my rant and stepping off my soapbox. Sorry for that. Like I said, this car has me baffled and yet, ....here it sits.

You know I love your car. I'm the one who started the thread on it in the History section. But the fact that it hasn't sold, tells you that your price point may not be in a sweet spot for prospective buyers. I'm not saying to lower the price, only you can know how you'd feel about that. $11,800 is not a crazy price for it, but it's not an IROC-Z and it has an L03/700R4 which means it will have a more limited audience.
With that said, beautiful car!

Re: 1989 Camaro RS Convertible
That's probably the best offer I've had, and I thank you for it. Unfortunately, I am not interested in trades right now. I appreciate your interest though.
Thank you for your thoughts. I really think it's priced fairly. Unfortunately, a lot of people want something for nothing, or are not willing to pay for quality. If that turns out to be the case it can go back in storage, not a big deal. It may be that I am more attached to it than anyone else. Forgive the earlier rant, it was just a weak moment.
I guess I'll be that guy...

Re: 1989 Camaro RS Convertible
as you said,no rush so leave the price as is or actually raise it.the car is stunning and you should absolutely be able to get $12-$14,000 for this car all day with 30,000 km/miles

Re: 1989 Camaro RS Convertible
It's funny, whenever I first got this car I had so many people tell me, "I sure wish I could find a good, clean third gen like that!". Or, "I can never find one that original!". Comments like that. Now that it's for sell, no one seems to want it. No one seems to want low mileage and originality unless it says Iroc on the side. Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.
More pictures:
Mileage really piling on.... almost 29,366!
Original radio, and the buttons are not all worn.
No cracks in the windshield glass or dash pad
No dash pad cracks
Original spare tire and jack

Re: 1989 Camaro RS Convertible
Thank you! At least there is one person that appreciates low miles and originality. I was beginning to think I needed to slap an Iroc-z sticker on the side! I too was thinking I should raise the price. One reason is that at this low of price I'm afraid people will think something is wrong with it. The second, everyone wants to offer you $2K-$3K less than what you are asking, and that won't do.

i hope you got a good price for it,that car was so clean.i agree the 1992 rs at $25,000 is high but its literally as good or better than one in the showroom new. and 250 documented km,it won its class at the camaro nationals as most original car (or so i was told)a year or two ago

Yes, I sold it to Blackdog Performance. I dealt with Chris Scheer, the Sales Manager. At the risk of sounding like a commercial or advocate for them, I will say the transaction was effortless and he was very pleasant to work with. It went very well, and was smooth and painless. If they ever want to buy one of your cars I would not hesitate to deal with them. I would do so again. He was thrilled when he got the car and I believe it exceeded his expectations. We were both happy with the transaction.
I will remember that car as being the cleanest, nicest car that I had the most trouble selling. I will never understand it. I got more comments about how nice and clean it was, but that it was just too plain. I thought about putting stripes across the hood and trunk but just couldn't bring myself to treat it that way. Not with less than 30K miles.
Anyway... someone will get them a very nice car. I wish them luck.
