Anyone here from the Interior of B.C. ? Kamloops, Salmon Arm, Vernon, Kelowna, Peachland, Summerland, Pentiction, etc. ??

My self and a friend in Kelowna are trying to get a group together of thirdgen guys & gals. Thus far it's only the two of us that have an interest in hanging out and helping out with mods/repairs.

I know of a guy in Kamloops and a guy in Kelowna (Both who I have never met)..

I also have a poly urethane transmission mount for sale its Energy Suspension part number 31180. The mount is used on A LOT of tranny's standard and autospastic. I installed it on my 95 firebird and it didn't work out to well. It fits don't get me wrong but the stock mount is hydraulic and is for a reason lol. whew the noise was pretty exciting. But if you are hard core and dont mind a little extra noise then this is for you. It was on my car for about 2 weeks. Let me know.

hey guys im in rutland but the car is under going alot of changes and will not be out for sometime at lest till i have a few more $$$ .
i got a motor swap and tranny going in then body work and paint to do after that is all done. but looking to sell after that and atfer i sell i want a 89 iroc tpi so i staying with the 3grd gen cars.

i love those 3 rd gen camaros might have seen them around. im only 17 and all the kids at school are driven those ***** burner there is only a few people in to the really cars now. i hope to have my car runing but summer but since funds and small it should be hard. i still have to pull the v6 just waiting for a motor lift. then all the prep work begans.do u guys have msn if so here is my steve_19_69@hotmail.com im on there alot more then on here.

hey guys just bought another 3rd gen. waiting to go back to school so that i can do a 305 swap in right now it only has a 267 but i sure that it well get me thougt the summer well get some pics up soon as i can get my scanner to work. man it was different to drive a car with a shift kit that was a new one for me frist time out in the rain the car sure like to be side ways. hopfully we can get together and go for drive really like to get to know some more people with 3 gens

Bought the above car from Daishi... and after working some bugs out love the car. The motor just kicks though it was a long way from the perfection stated when I got it... she hauls now. Anyone in Williams Lake or 100 mile?

Heya Joel. First off just wanted to say sorry about the oil leak. I honestly didn't know. I knew she burned a bit of oil, but I thought that was normal for the older 350's. Hope she will treat ya well, I know she was kind to me. That tape you were asking about on the ignition wire, its just holding the ignition/tach wires from jiggling loose. She kept shaking the clips off and she would stall on me, so i just taped the wires up so it wouldn't vibrate anymore. Glad to see your in the process of fixing her up. Just wanted to pop in and say good luck on your project, and I wish you the best on your project.

Thanks Joe for the response... I have sewed up the leaks after a few long hours and am about to tackle the last one... oil pan front seal tommarow. No hard feelings. Like I said the motor and tranny are both in good working rder just sloppy seal work and common mistakes.

hey joe what did you do with the carb and under dash components. You said that u had a holley carb on it at one time... do you want to get rid of it?

Carb is sold. Not sure what you mean about under dash components, the missing panel by ur feet was cracked to hell, and im not sure what else would be missing. I never messed with the dash too much, only the gage cluster and stereo stuff. Most of the old parts I tossed em. Dont think I have much if anything left.

Vernon here, I'm an enthusiast, but unfortunatly the guy who was going to sell me his car dissapeared... So, I'm in need of a little help as far as that goes. Ohyeah, I'm young, like, oh noes, I got screwed by ICBC's regulations young... But that'll be done in a month.

(Yes, I am posting almost entirly because I'm hoping somebody will want to sell me a car, because I'm cheap and this is the free way to run a wanted ad, hopefully the mods don't mind...)

Cool. We'll have to get together and have a beer. Salmon Arm is nice (especially in the summer) and houses are still FAIRLY reasonable there...as is Kamloops.

Salmon Arm is much like Kelowna in that the surrounding geography is nice, but the town itself is a pit. Still it's much better now than it was just a few years ago even.

If by "pit", you mean not much to do and not many choices of where to buy things, I know what you mean. I have a few friends that live in/near SA and they always complain on how the stores are ripping off the residents with their outrageous prices.

Kamloops is a little better thanks to a Wal-Mart and Home Depot that keeps the local stores "on their toes". Still sucks for buying auto parts, but I usually get my parts directly from the US anyway. (Even the stores in Vancouver rip you off when it comes to "good parts").

Yeah, you should have tried Kamloops 20 years ago before the big-box stores were there.

I usually get my auto parts at Lordco, they can at least order in whatever you're looking for, and you don't get so screwed on entry fees and shipping compared to ordering from the states. You have to know exactly what you're looking for with the performance stuff though because help from behind the counter is pretty hit-and-miss. For the routine stuff it's better to call NAPA first and get their price, then call Lordco up and ask them what they'll do to beat the NAPA price.

I'm lucky, I have a buddy that lives down in the States (Ferndale WA). I just order my parts and have them shipped to his home. Then I pick them and bring them back. You might want to visit the "Cascade Crew" website and get to know some of the guys. Most are willing to help out a fellow 3rd Gen enthusiast.

At Lordco, I tell them I am a member of the "Kamloops Street Rod Association". They will give you the cheaper of 30% off or any sale they may have. If the sale price is only 25% off, then you get the 30% discount. They are suppose to ask to see your card, but they never ask for it.

Once they've seen your face often enough they'll give you the discount anyway, or you can just give them an account name. As long as it's a cash sale and you're not actually trying to charge it to the account they'll give you the discount. anyway. When I was in Kelowna I used to have stuff shipped to the company's Seattle office all the time and somebody would bring it back for me, was great for eBay too.

I just found a new company in the US to buy my "good old made in the USA parts". They are called AD Performance in Washington State. They will work with the "shipping" so you can get the parts into your hands without paying Washington State Tax and then just "drive them across the border yourself" - saving all that brokerage. If you stay down for 48 hours, then you can claim your exemption too.

They've been quoting me a price for an assembled 427 Motown Shortblock with AFR 210s that no body in Canada can touch. In fact, I can get that combo cheaper than most of the better crate engines from the GM Dealership my sister works at WITH her "family price discount".

And as the Canadian Dollar gets stronger, that "package" gets cheaper by the day. If the dollar goes over $.90 soon, I just may jump at it.

Then I'll need to find a HD tranny and rear to handly that monster.

Yeah, I would stick a nice "baby" solid roller cam of 260ish/260ish duration @ .050 with a 106-108 LSA in that combo.

IF it was ONLY the engine and heads, I would slap it on my credit card right now. But I also know that I would have to buy a new HD tranny and HD rear end as well as some suspension, chassis and brake upgrades, and I don't have enough money for all that.

It sure would be fun to tune. I'd like to try and do that with the stock 7730 ECM.

Yeah, I do too. It was only two years ago that I paid over $1.60 for every 1 US$. Now, it's (or should be) only $1.23. That is why I am now seriously considering a Motown SBC 427. It's not much more than a "cheap" rebuild of my old L98 - but a heck of a lot more motor.

I just did a quick search on this motown block, seems quite expensive for just the block alone, defiantly more then what a cheap rebuild would be, what all comes with it from these guys and what do they plan to charge you if you don't mind me asking?

I probably should qualify what my definition of a "cheap rebuild". But they are asking under US$4,000 (under C$5,000 today) for the assembled short block (which is a better price than World Castings). I could get it cheaper if I wanted the "lesser 415 short block". Add a set of AFR 210s (US$1450) and all I need to do is settle on the cam I want to run. I plan to use my Miniram.

The real cost is getting a new HD tranny and HD rear-end since there is no way the stock units will last. That's what is really holding me back from going for the 427. But if the C$ gets any higher, I may just buy it and put it on an engine stand and store it in my "Rec Room". It would sure be quite the conversation piece.

When I was talking to one of the better machine shops about splaying the bottom end, decking the block, align honing, magnufluxing, forged stroker crank kit, and balancing to run all day @ 6,000 rpm (and the block will still only be a production block), the price was already over C$ 5,000 at one of the better machine shops. And when I enquired into the cost of the GM HT383 short block, they wanted more the C$ 5,000 also.

My original engine is actually still running. It has over 300,000 kms and still doesn't burn any oil. I've just parked it for the last year to save money since we just bought a new house and I had to do some renos to the house. Also, I haven't been that well and not driving around very much. Hell, we got 3 cars and I still haven't got my pickup truck yet.

I plan to swap the cam this winter (Crane 222/230 @ .050) and maybe insure it for the summer months. It really will depend on how much driving I am able to handle.

None. I am buying new. I was talking to Valley Speed in Kamloops, but for what they want to build my L98 into a 383 and what I would get versus a new Motown 427 assembled shortblock just doesn't make sense. The price wasn't that much cheaper than just buying the 427.

And there is no comparing a ANY production GM block to the Motown in terms of it's strength and capabilities. The Motown is the only block that can be bored out to 4.20" and make a 454 (should I ever want to take it out that far). If want to save money, I can always "settle" for the 415 for US$500 less and it is still 32 cubes bigger than a 383. (Along with the better block).

Besides, this way I can store my original numbers matching L98 block and save it should I ever decide to restore the GTA to original condition in the future. I've learnt a long time ago to keep original blocks. This way I will never have to worry about destroying it (which I've done a few more times than I care to remember in my 33 years of driving).

Valley Speed is about the only place I'd take anything. I'm not really surprised that the Motown block is competitive with having all that work done on a stock block though.

If you're gonna make "reliable" power, you need the good parts. And those good parts are expensive. Two years ago, rebuilding in Canada was the least expensive route to go. But with the recent cheap US$, it's become a whole new game.

I've also gone the cheapie route with "disposable engines". They can be "fun" since you don't have to give a damn about them and just beat the snot out of them. That is why I'm a Chevy guy - SBC are one of the cheapest engines to make power and they seem take the beats and hold together the longest. AMCs and Fords just didn't hold up. Mopars weren't too bad, but they are expensive to make power. If I was making a "beater truck", I probably still just stick a "disposable Chevy 350" in it and beat the crap out it. When it dies, take any good parts off of it that can be reused, slap them on the next cheap & used SBC 350 I find and toss it into the truck.

I just have different plans for the 'Bird. And for the last 3 years, I've always drooled over the Motown 427 short block...but since the cheap C$, I can wipe the slobber off the spec sheet and seriously consider it.
