alternators

Hello im about to do my system in a few weeks and i want to have it clean and have as little problems as possible. What kind of alternator and batterie should i get for my ride? I have a 89 5.7 tpi and i will be running a after market stereo with aftermarket speakers and 2 subs and a amp. Any advise or examples from your rides would help.

well i wouldnt woory about upgrading the alternator yet, id install it and see if you have any problems...id upgrade the wires those

wire from battery to alternator
wire from battery to ground
and engine ground

upgrade to 4 gauge wire( can be found in installs kits from walmart

yeah, see if you tsock electrical can support the upgrades then id worry about the alt, but you dont see to be drawing to much power, so you'll probably be ok

^ Actually, if you're planning on doing the big 3 upgrade like mentioned above, I'd go with 0 or 2 awg wiring > 4 awg. Just because the bigger = the better. Obviously, there's a limit, but the whole reason to do it is to free up the resistance.

And I'd definatly get a bigger alternator for that amp. You're gonna have problems. I'd say look for a 160 Amp+ alternator. There's some good places to buy 'em online, if you're interested in links.

Also, I'd go with AT LEAST an Optima Red-Top, if not a Yellow-Top.

yes bigger wire is better, but like i saif 4 gauge is alot easier to come across. and more than enough for that amp.
If im correct those SPL amps are made by power acoustik and are extremely overrated.
theres no sense in spending 250+ bucks on a high output alternator if you dont need it.

but if you need an alternator check out www.4alterstart.com

Any good local alternator shop can convert a stock alternator to put out 120 amps, which SHOULD be plenty.
