4th gen era cd in 3rd then with cass
I have a 91 rs, that came stock with the AM/FM cassette player. I picked up an AM/FM cd player from a swap meet (supposedly out of a 92 Cadillac). The cassette player had the standard 4 piece connectors (but only 3 of the connectors had active wiring). The CD player had the same connector, but I also noticed that there was a seperate 6 wire connector.
I plugged the cd player in, and it powered up, the clock worked, the controls worked and it received FM. However, it does not play CDs. When a CD is inserted, the radio turns off, you can hear the CD spin, and then it either spits the CD out with an "ERR" displayed on the face or it just keeps spinning the CD until you eject it.
I took the thing apart, cleaned the laser lens, and confirmed that the lens would travel and that none of the internal harnesses were disconnected or damaged. I then found that the phantom 6 wire connector is wired directly to the CD player.
Can anyone give me any advice on how to wire this 6 wire connector or where I can locate a wiring diagram that shows this connector?
P.S. I did search the forums/tech articles for information and didn't find a whole lot that was applicable.
Thanks in advance for your help (and the posi in my signature is a 3.42).

Try the install doctor.
Not too sure if this can be done...
Chances are they had it for sale at the swap 'cause it didn't work in the first place. (But I'm a pessimist)

KevinG, thanks for the reply.
Of course that occurred to me, but I'm trying to remain optimistic given the close relationship between the 6 wire connector and the cd drive.

C'mon guys, don't give up on me now. I've seen posts about this in the past, but now can't find them here are in the archives. Ideally, I'd love a wiring diagram for this player (it's a CD player with grey buttons. The most notable feature is rocker switches for the treble and base). It's also a theftloc (but I think it's disabled). Short of a diagram, some help with the 6 wire connector would be great. I have faith in the infinite resources of the internet. The answers out there. Someone please help.
Thanks in advance.
(btw - the title should have been 4th gen era cd in 3rd GEN with cass).

Was it a burnt CD? If not it really sounds like the optical pickup is going up on it. Don't know about the 6 pin connector, maybe for a CD changer option? I'm thinking you got burned at the swap meet, it happens. If you have no luck here after a couple of days try the electronics form, but give it time in this form first.

I'm trying to be patient guys, the fact is I bought the CD to satiate my teenage son, and now it doesn't work. I'm not looking too good (I know, don't be such a cheapskate and buy an aftermarket - oh well).
Anyway, upon doing further research, it is most probable that this radio had steering wheel controls. Is it possible that's what the 6 wire connector is for? Does anyone have any experience with Delco radios with remote buttons? Is the absence of the buttons (if it did indeed have remote buttons) maybe affecting operation?
Okay, i'll shut up and wait now.
