CD player ground problem.
Well I installed my cd player and all was fine for about 2 weeks. I went over a bump and it popped my main radio fuse and out went my interior lights and all that. Well i put a new fuse in and then the fuse in the back of the radio went out and started to smoke. I quickly disconnected it. Ever time i put a new fuse in the back of the head unit it immediately pops. Have any of you ran into this sort of problem? Got a solution? Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks

Re: CD player ground problem.
In my 88 formy, I didn't notice at first that the interior lights wire is dark brown and the ground (of course) is black. It was kinda dark at the time and I didn't notice, but I accidentally hooked the radio ground to my interior lights. As soon as I turned on my headlights with the radio on, my gauge cluster went black!
After I hooked it back up the right way, cursed at it, and replaced a couple fuses, it was all good.

^^That sounds about right. Check over the wires for your headlights that connect to your stereo. There should be two. Follow them down and see if they look damaged anywhere.

Well. I checked all my main fuses and they were all good. I went out and purchased another cd player harness and rewired it correctly just like before and nothings. I looked to see if any of the wires were burnt or cut and nothing. If i had a fried CD player would it be popping fuses like that?
Re: CD player ground problem.
If smoke came out of the deck, then something fried.
and yes if something inside the deck is now shorted, the fuse will pop just like it's doing. it's drawing more current then it's designed too, so the fuse pops.
What kind of deck is it?

Re: CD player ground problem.
is the deck old? chances are that something inside it came off with the bump and is shorting causing fuses to blow, wires wouldn't melt thats the point of the fuse

Before you install the new deck, make sure all your wires are connected properly. Are you using a harness to install the new deck? Or was the factory harness cut off?

before you upgrade you should probably find a cheap hu and hook it up just to make sure theres not a problem with your power wire take a multi meter and measure the amperage comming from it i think its suposed to be 15 amps give or take a few
