Bass Tube or Two Tens

Guys i have saved up some money and am going to be getting new 6x9s and new 4x6s and also maybe a bass tube or tens. What would you guys suggest i get a bass tube or two tens i want to have loud clear bass and feel it when it hits also what kind of 4x6s fit in a firebird since i know there are issues with the magnets being big. Also for 6x9s what makes a good speaker large magnet small magnet what should the cone be made out of ? Thanks a lot sorry for all the questions i'm kinda new to the whole system thing.

personally i prefer a sealed or ported box over a tube. Just something about them i dont like, now theres plenty of people here on the board that use them and love them. Its a matter of preferance and budget. A bass tube will fit nicely into the cargo hole, and 2 tens will sound better but need to be put into a box that will fit back there.

My vote would be to go with the 2 10's. You'll get MUCH tighter bass out of them than you will a bass tube, but the install is more involved unless you buy a pre-fabricated box for them. Base tubes sound just OK in my opinion, but I had a buddy a few years back that put 3 10" Bazooka bass tubes in his Honda Civic and it thumped some VERY nice bass....but the rest of his system got overpowered by it ;-)

If your budget and creativity are low....then go with a powered bass tube. If not....get yourself a nice amp and a set of mid-high end subs. I use Rockford Fosgate Punch XLC's in my pickup truck and they thump VERY nice. I believe the 12's go for @ $125 a piece....so the 10's should be a bit cheaper.

Word to the wise though...do NOT buy Rockford Fosgate stuff off of eBay or the warranty will be voided! I called to get some amps serviced and they rejected me because I didn't buy them through an authorized dealer.

Good Luck!

I'd go with the 2 10's also. I don't like the way the bass tubes sound at all. Sorry :-(

Well....if your budget is low.....buy the best equipment you can fit into it ;-) Creativity will get you through it.....

You don't need a lot of power to have a good sounding system. Check the car audio mags....you see some top notch systems running 100 watt amps to their subs and POUNDING.

My suggestion for low budgets is to get middle of the road equipment....or the best you can afford. Don't buy kick *** subs and a Jensen amp....it will sound like crap. On the flip side....don't buy a kick *** amp and Road Gear subs....it will still sound like crap.

Balance the amp and the subs quality....it'll sound decent.

I forgot to say earlier that I would make kick panels instead of putting 4x6s in the dash. your going to get alot better sound for about $40 if you make them yourself. I'm right now working on making some for my car.

HAHA, well ... I really haven't a clue on what to do there. Maybe you can build a box around the bass tube.
