1991 Camaro - Carb'ed 383 - Progress

I've posted up here a couple of times as I've been working on this car. I just wanted to share how it came out. This probaby doesn't belong in this forum, execpt I've spent most of the time in here working on the mechanics of the car since it is a Carb Swap. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

First Up, a picture of the interior. This still needs a little work, though cosmetically it is about finished. I'm going to have a section of leather dyed to match the rest of the interior better (it was replaced and is a lighter shade than the rest of the leather. Silver Face gauges and a chrome RS badge on the dash to match the grey interior. Half of the interior has yellow lettering, and half has white. I'm working on converting totally to white from the 1990 - 1993 Yellow Lettering abmonination Chevy thought was a good idea:

A view of the side. Note, the ground effects are all crack free, and fit together well. Wheels are in decent shape, but could really use a fresh finish. Tires are going to be changed out soon for some new tread. The RS logo under the door and again at the rear are "black chrome" and have the RS logo etched in. Very suttle and monochromatic. Clear corner lens to finish off the monochrome look

Blackouts on the tail lights finish out the monochrome look. The only color on this car is on the Texas LP. Everything on the car is white, black, chrome or clear.

Well, here it is. It's been hard to describe, so a picture is worth a thousand words. The cowl has a suttle rise, and follows the original lines present in the stock hood. The cowl is 4" at the back, and clears the aircleaner by a hair underneath. The familliar CAMARO FLAG is changed out for a "black chrome" flag that matches the RS logos on the rest of the car.

The motor, which hasn't changed since last time it was shown here (except now it is clean) is a SBC 383 with the following specs:

4 Bolt Main Gen 1 SBC
388 Cubic Inch Displacement (4.06 bore, as opposed to 4.03)
Stock L98 (87-92 Camaro Z28 & Corvette) Heads, 8.5:1 Compression
Summit Flat Tappet Cam/Lifters (224/224, .465/.465, 114LSA)
Edlebrock RPM Performer Dual Plane Intake
Holley Street Avenger 670CFM Carb

She put down a respectable 258 Horsepower and 325 LB FT Torque. If you work that against a 15% drivetrain loss (it's an auto, so it's probably closer to 20%, but let's be conservative) the motor puts out 304 Horsepower and 383 Lb Ft of Torque at the crank. I'm certainly satisfied with these numbers. I think with a really nice set of heads and a bigger cam, she'd really wake up - but for a daily driver that's going to putt up and down the road, I'm very satisfied with the performance.

So that's it... for this phase. With all project cars, this one will evolve over time. Motor was built to be blown so a small Weiand blower may find it's way under the hood one of these days, and I'm wanting to upgrade the audio system along the way. But all in all, I'm very excited and I finally have the car I've always wanted (been drooling over 3rd gen Camaros since I was 10 and started thinking about having my own car) and I'm going to enjoy driving it for a while.

:yeah:

ah, ok, I was going to ask why such a low CR, but for a blower, that makes sense...
also, wanna run through the math of how you used L98 (64cc) heads, and a 383 to get down to 8.5:1 CR?
Very slick car!

TPI TO CARB SWAP ??

I'VE JUST PUT A 383 STORKER IN A 91 FORMULA. EVERYTHING RUNS GREAT. I'M JUST HAVING TROUBLE WITH STARTING THE CAR WITH THE KEY (I'M USING A REMOTE BUTTON). AND I'M HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE CHARGING SYSTEM, IT'S ONLY GETTING 8 TO 10 AMPS WITH A NEW ALT. DID YOU HAVE ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS? IF SO HOW DID YOU GET AROUND THEM. THANKS

I had no problems at all. Used the Stock alternator. I did use a new aftermarket starter, but only because I wanted some extra header clearance and wasn't too anxious to replace one along the way.
