Car runs very rich!
I Recently installed a chevy 350 out of a 2001 chevy exspress van into my 1991 rs. It has headders, full flowmaster exhaust, edelbrock performer intake, and a edelbrock 650 carb 1406. Other then that the motor is mostly stock. The problem i have is the car is very very rich! When i give it full throttle i can watch the cloud behind me. Its has 5psi from the fuel regulator to the carb and and the timming was set at 3 degrees before top dead center.
Some one said it sounds like i have to big of a carb, but i really don't think so from what i have read. Also i don't know what really to set the motor timming to!
I tried jetting it down to the lowest the tuneing kit came with and checking for vac. leaks!
Please help!

if its running rich lean it out a little... if its a used carb check the rods and jets to see if they are stock or not.

if that edelbrock carb is a performer series than you should get rid of it i had that carb and after awhile it started making my motor run rich, smoking and flodding out,it still did that after rebuilding the carb so i decided to put my quadrajet on it and i havent had a problem since..not disrespecting edelbrock but they dropped the ball on their carbs(plus a few of my friends have had that problem with edelbrock carbs)

Re: Car runs very rich!
I've always had great luck with Edelbrock carbs and performer intakes.
Why do you have the timing set 3 deg. retarded? I'm pretty sure it should be advanced like 10 deg. or so. I could be wrong though.
Are the floats sticking in the carb? Have you adjusted it? Do you have it hooked up corectlly?
A 650cfm should be just fine, it's not too much.
