Secondary air valves have strange cut-outs?
Hi all,
Im fairly new to quadrajets. I have two of them lying around that I wanted to have rebuilt to put on one of the project engines I have. Both are Olds carbs: one is a 76 which is pretty normal. The other is a 73, but something about it confuses me a bit, and I was wondering if someone could shed some light on what Qjets came with this weird feature and why (or if any came from the factory like this at all).
Simply, the secondary air valves have square holes cut out of them. Anyone wanna share some knowledge?

Someone cut those in. They did not come that way from the factory. The purpose for them is to help pull the fuel out of the secondary holes ( they're cut right in front of them ) for a smoother transition when the secondaries open and eliminate any bogging. I don't know how much it helps, but I was planning on doing mine the same way....after I talk to a Q-jet guru first to see if I should even bother for my application.

Ya, those slots were factory on some late 60s and early 70s Pontiac stuff. You should run the numbers on that carb, it may be worth some good coin to a restorer.... carbs like that usually came on TAs and GTOs.

Re: Secondary air valves have strange cut-outs?
Well the carbs numbers are 7043250 RA
0294
Which as far as I understand from what I've found around the web is a 1973 (the 43) 4bbl (2) Oldsmobile (5, as opposed to 6 for Pontiac).
Is this a fairly correct readout of the numbers? To be honest I'd like it to be some kind of special Pontiac carb, but then again, I'd also like to know I was able to figure out a simple 7 number sequence correctly on my own
