305TBI-350carb swap, gauge problem
hey everyone, i just bought an 89 RS that had the orignial 305TBI swapped over to a carbed 350, problem is now only the speedo works in the original gauge cluster, the last guy installed some aftermarket gauges, tach / oil temp / water temp / volt meter that all work fine but i would like to get rid of them as they look like the belong in a honda <,< anyone ever had this problem before?

If the after market gauges are still in, you will have to put the factory sending units / sensors back in so the factory stuff will work. The after market stuff will have their own sending units in order for them to work.

Re: 305TBI-350carb swap, gauge problem
i think the reason he put the aftermarker ones in was due to the stock ones not working, not the sending units but the actually gauges, not sure tho, im just assuming as they are the same gauges as the stock ones,. maybe if i try the sending units from a carbed 3rd gen? altho it still has the stock harness, perhaps the gauge cluster is bad, ill run to the junkyard and grab a gauge cluster and some sensors to see if i can get them to work that way, thanks

The point he was trying to make is the aftermarket gauges most likely use sending units that are not compatible with factory gauges.
The factory volt meter simply uses power that is supplied to the cluster. If it isn't working, then the power to the cluster has been disconnected.

just found these online, says it comes with the correct sensors and adapters, im thinking it would be easier to just buy this and get it all hooked up, i like the digital gages anyway, think that would work? http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd168.htm
