Carb Still Sucking Fuel When Turned Off
I noticed that my garage sometimes smells like gas after my car has been parked in overnight, but I've never had any problems other than that until tonight. It just randomly died and wouldn't turn over. So after I got her pushed off the road, I took a look under the hood and saw my Carb (Edel. 650 cfm Thunder Series) was STILL loading fuel. I'm guessing it does this and that's why it sometimes smells like gas. But the Carb is new (maybe 4 months old) so I dunno what it could be. Thanks in advance for any help.

What does that mean? Carbs don't suck fuel, the pump pushes it to them.

Same difference, either way the sucker was loading up with fuel when there wasn't supposed to be any power to anything.

Re: Carb Still Sucking Fuel When Turned Off
I'll take a stab at this, Two possibilitys...... Trash is getting under the float needle valve(s) hanging them open or the fuel tank vent is plugged. Fuel creates pressure in the tank when sloshed/driving, If the vent (hose or cap) isn't venting, Pressure will push fuel past the float needle valve and cause flooding.....

Re: Carb Still Sucking Fuel When Turned Off
On second thought, It sounds like more a pressure/venting issue over a hanging float needle valve. If this is the listed 82 I'd check/replace the gas cap, This ethanol fuel reeks havoc on rubber parts and could have the cap diaphragm swelled up hampering proper venting.
With this, Do you mean the engine wouldn't crank over/spin or cranked over but wouldn't start up ?
You may have two issues going on at the same time ?

Re: Carb Still Sucking Fuel When Turned Off
Well, It's obvious if the carb flooded it would shut the engine down and not re-start due to the flooding. Check the easy things first as in the gas cap/vent......
Also, If this has been going on for a while, The spark plugs may be fouled and in need of replacing. Also check your engine oil for fuel contamination from the carb seeping fuel over night (gas smell in garage).
