Vacuum line question/Idle issue

305, quadrajet, new cap and rotor, timing is 4* with the advance connector off.

I am having some odd idle and acceleration problems. Ive replaced the vacuum break on the carb as it wasnt holding vacuum. I noticed there is a 3 prong shaped vac connector down near the evap cannister. One hose back to manifold vacuum, the other to the cannister, the 3rd prong to open air?? - I cant find where its supposed to go. I get immediate vacuum when I start the car there, if I plug it, the car runs worse. Ive done some reading - is this supposed to go to open air? Ill try to post a pic later today.

Im also getting some acceleration issues above 30MPH. It will shake and struggle when the gas pedal is pressed. If I release the throttle and give it time to "catch up" it will smooth out.

Idle is kind of sporadic - from cold start in park its about 1500-2000 PRM, in drive it drops to 1100 or so and idles rough. I think its running rich, im going to replace the plugs and wires and check their condition.

Could be several things, carb probably needs a rebuild, but wondering where to start without throwing a ton of money at it.

Here is the line in question. I have it plugged for now and it seems to run much better

There is a vaccuum retainer, usually sphere shaped you might be missing.

Re: Vacuum line question/Idle issue

You can probably still buy them. Or just yank one from another 3rd Gen. Mounts up inside the driver's side fender/front.

"The Black Orb of Power!!" ... or so I've called them in the past.
