carb spacers

Are carb spacers any good? Or are they just hype?

From what I've read out of magazines and other information (you know, the people that have the money to do actual dyno testing, not the morons who say "Well, I'll be damned if those '31s I put on the back of my Camaro gave me 5 more mpg!"), carb spacers are usually worth a bit more power. That is never always the case, though, as all engines are different. All you can do is research old dyno tests and stuff in magazines and books for a setup similar to yours and see what worked well for them, unless you have money to have testing done on your motor (Not worth it for carb spacers)

It totally depends on your particular combo. That can be worth nothing, or a cheap 5 hp. Usually the most gains come when you're using too small a carb and use an open spacer under to help bandaid it.

i have a 1" one on mine i have always been told they help with low end and thats it. i read a mag once that had a test on them and some motors they did help and some they didn't the most i ever saw was 5 more hp i would think anymore then that.

but on the other hand my friend has a 1" on his mustang and it runs like **** without it dont know why just does maybe its just cuz its a ford :sillylol:

one reason we both have them is to fill the hood up some. i have a cowl hood and i was just short by a 1/2inch so i bought the hood and then put the spacer on there to make it look like i need more the just a 1/2 inch. same with his but his is open scoop and now you can almost see the carb if you look straight at it.

i had really crappy low end throttle repsonse before i put a 4-hole 1" phenolic spacer on my single plane. since then i got excellent throttle response all the way across the board...also helps keep the carb nice and cool and prevents percolation(gas boiling in the carb)
