Hey there Jersey89,
I am going to be in the Trenton (McGuire AFB) area for a few weeks and thought I might catch up with some eastern third-gen owners. Are you near that area? Any third-gen get togethers of the next few weeks?

1987 IROC-Z Convertable 1G1FP31FXHN153115
305 TPI
5 Speed
3.08 Posi
ASC Conversion
Black with Grey Interior and Aqua stripe on lower body where the grey/silver stripes would originally have been and was that way when I bought it.
Map pouch with "20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition"
Second owner, bought in Tulsa OK in 1988
I have never found a vendor that sells door panels for these cars, anyone else notice that theirs are '86ish looking? Mine resemble 1986 ones in design yet have the "slashes" in the door panel upper area like the seats do. Thought I'd throw that out there.

Moreover what is ultimately the most interesting thing is ASC did the 4th Gens too, same thing, took a T-top car and cut the top off. The only difference is GM employees did the conversion with ASC parts at the Factory. Because there was not ample room at Norwood or Van Nuys the conversion was done at an ASC facility.

Re: Your Convertibles
I happen to have a "build" or order sheet that I found in the car and it almost looks like it is implying that the car came "topless" as that is on the document. I need to scan it in and let you guys take a look at it, if I can still find it. That is where I got the name "topless" from. Thanks for the info you provided. I had heard that GM started building them themselves in 1989 i believe with ASC parts of course. :-)

Re: Your Convertibles
That is the Dealer Invoice... I am not entirely sure how it works, but I would imagine that like every other package shipped around the world with the shipment, the truck driver would give the invoice to the dealership, or the invoice would be in the car somewhere to be removed. Yours happened to end up in your car, or a copy of it anyways.

Re: Your Convertibles
I had contacted ASC back in 1994 with my vin. They had said it is the 69th of 104, and that it was converted on 5-19-88.

Re: Your Convertibles
Its a project car and I've still got lots of work to do on it. shortly after rescuing it from a mates driveway where it had stood for 5 or 6 years I discovered the engine block had cracked from frost damage but I've got hold of a replacement engine after saving up for a year! with some blood sweat and tears and a bit of luck I'm hoping to be driving it this year. This site is awesome by the way.

Re: Convertibles
I have a 1990 conv with 78000 miles all original except alternator one door skin, paint, mufflers, alternator, and wheels which are now 8 1/2 in. rallys with corvette center pieces. The wheels are constantly getting raves for increased appeal of appearance. Three of the originals where warped from sitting during winter.

I do but I do not know how to get from I phone to computer I can attach to message on I phone if you would like. I bought this car for my daughter for high school. I kept for personal use when she went off to college. She is now in her late 30s.

Current pic
Got rid of the racing stripes, hood, wheels, chrome badges
Back to stock hood, 19/20" HRE's and stock as much as possible from an appearance perspective.
Still have the cage... I dont want to but Im afraid it will twist if I remove it
