Vinyl wear stickers on the tonneau cover LOOK INSIDE
I will be getting some of the wear stickers made I can get more made and they will be definitely under $100 not positive yet though but I need a template of the two side pieces. These will be exact replica's and will be made of a good quality 7 year vinyl and can be positioned like window tint then the glue sets. This would be better anyway because most of the decals that are left are yellowed now. If anyone is interested or can make me a template of the side pieces LMK. If you can make a quick trace of the sides I will pay for postage and give $5 or whatever for your time.

Re: Vinyl wear stickers on the tonneau cover LOOK INSIDE
What side pieces? The quarter panel caps? I wouldn't think you'd need a template of those to make the vinyl decal?
If you really do get some of these made I will buy one from you, no kidding around. I don't have one on my car right now, just a few extra coats of clear from when I got the tonneu cover repainted a few years ago.

these are the side pieces I was talking about. If anyone can make a template off theirs I would really appreciate it.

I've been looking for a set. I'm about to have my car painted and the one that's on there now is flaking off.

I could get them made without the side pieces for now but I would really like to have the side pieces done too. all I need is a trace around them.

I went out first thing this morning to trace the side pieces but for some reason I don't have them on my car... sorry dude. You're right though it would be better to have a complete kit. I can see where the paint is scuffed right where those side pieces would cover.

If all you need is a trace I will try and remember to go to my car after work today and trace them out for you. It's hard to remember to do things like this when the car isn't stored at my house you know

As long as I get one. They need to be exact though since I don't have them on mine. This will be the final spec on it. Also it doesn't matter if it is just a trace of just one of the side pieces because they should be symmetrical. I will get a prototype made first just like anything else but this will not be something that will take forever but it is not a cheap project either so bear with me.

John, what is the hardwear attached to the inside edge of your tonneau in the 1st picture? I don't have that. Thanks!

That's right for shoulder belts. That is a borrowed pic mine doesn't have should belts either. They were only on the 89+ verts. Anybody get that trace for me? I am going to try and get these done this week hopefully but I want the side pieces done too.

Re: Vinyl wear stickers on the tonneau cover LOOK INSIDE
I just traced mine, send me your e-mail and I will scan in tomorrow at work and e-mail it to you, or I can fax it or snail mail.
I put a piece of paper over the decal and scribbled on the paper, the edge of the decal left a dark outline in the scribbling. I could only do the passenger side as the divers side is wrinkled.
I don't want any money for it, just want to be able to buy a new decal for less than 100. Hopefully car goes into paint in the next 30 days.

I know it would be alot easier scanning but I want to be sure everything is exact or in my mind this would be a waste. I really appreciate it. Thanks

I was getting ready to go trace it for you but saw that Jeff has already helped you out. I can't wait to be able to buy one of these.
Hey Jeff, are you coming to the cruise with FAST on March 9th? I'm going but probably going to end up driving my gf's IROC-Z.

Just wanted to make sure you received the paper with the shape of the little side decals, and that they provided you with the information you needed.
Also checking in to see your progress, I think my car will go in for paint next week and trying to decide what to do... Buy an older (yellowed) set for an unbelievably high price, buy some of the 3M Clear Mask, wait and get a set from you.
Thanks again, -Jeff

Great, thanks for the update.
If those don't work I can try to peel off one of the decals and send it over when I drop the car off for paint.
Thanks again.

I am down for a set also. Although my car won't be painted for a year and a half. I am building a garage this spring/summer so I can't start ripping it apart till then. I'll just throw it in the pile of parts I'm building up in my basement.
Rims, headers y- pipe, off road pipe, cat back exhaust, electric cut out, vortec heads, vortec tpi intake, 58mm throttle body, AS&M LTR's, walbro fuel pump with new wiring harness, door hinge pin kit, Torque arm, crossmember w/driveshaft loop, LCA's, LCA relocation brackets, clear side markers, clear turn signal, POR-15, Lead Free body solder kit and a million to go.
Dam it's going to be sweet when it's done.

I've had my car painted for a year or so, it definately wears without the vinyl. I'm responding so I can be in the thread, I'd like to get a set also. BTW, I found an pristine dash pad off a 92 firebird the other day. I hear they won't work on Camaros, but if any of you are interested let me know. It is like new, absolutely fantastic.

Oh yeah $100 shipped this is better vinyl than gm used also and the adhesive is top quality also. This price will eventually come down but I won't actually be making anything for a while thanks to all the programming cost.

Re: Vinyl wear stickers on the tonneau cover LOOK INSIDE
still trying to get everything perfect on these but I have your username. I will pm you when they are ready. right now I am waiting on the vinyl to come in. I am using the best vinyl I could find so these will outlast the originals. This is taking alot longer than I wanted it to. But these will be ready soon. I am also going to be talking to some other people about getting some other stuff made. it will more than likely be fiberglass stuff. The black vinyl covered piece on the tonneau cover is one and hopefully the cheap plastic crap on the top where the handles and visors are. I haven't even started with any of that other than having all of them so don't get your hopes up on that. I am not going to be taking any payments on anything until it is sitting here waiting to be shipped. I want to make sure it all meets my standards before anything is ever changing hands.

I am noticing my paint wearing pretty quickly, I am hoping it is just the clear and will rub it out before installing the vinyl. I am wondering, however, if the vinyl can be removed and reused if I decide to repaint.

Without talking to my vinyl guy I am going to have to say no just because these are being made to oem standards so the adhesive should and will be like the original so it is pretty much when you put it on it is there to stay. If it is wearing I would suggest to apply extra wax for the time being all around the tonneau and get a couple coats of clear applied before applying the sticker.

had fun last night...opening night for the season for a weekly cruise-in. Had to have been over a hundred cars. No 3rd gens, but lots of nice stuff. Finally felt like spring.
