I'd be interested in a scan of supplement. My 87 has a copy of the supplement and it's actually a 8X11 full color copy of the 86 TA in red on the cover page...This one...They downsized it for 89

That's cool. The smaller size is certainly more practical for keeping in the car. I imagine the larger format gets bent or creased while stored.
It's so good to see all of your nice convertibles, never see any in person only the nice ones on the Thirdgen sight.
Just posted mine for sale here, It's not easy to let go of such a good friend that I've loved on for 28 years, one of the guarantees in life is Change.

I also want to thank you for doing such a great job with all of the very informative posts on all of the 3rdgen cars, and again especially the ASC convertibles.
I can only imagine the countless hours spent with all of the in depth research that is needed to get it right, and the time to post it all. I think that you and all of your great work here is the holy grail for the 3rd gen owners out there, good stuff.
I'm sure you are aware my 88 conv. is listed for sale here. If there is any info I can get to you on my car it would be my pleasure. The vin.# is in the ad. I have written down all of the option codes, if you are interested for comparisons I can post them.

Hopefully be able to spend some time w the car getting to know it better, but picked up a 1989 ASC GTA 5.7L Convertible.
Car sounds great, looks great, and brings back memories of the 89 5.7L t-top Gunmetal GTA I had from 1991-2005 - only BETTER!!
Car is quite dirty still from transportation- and its COLD outside. But it'll get cleaned ASAP.
Feeling fortunate this Thanksgiving for the opportunity to own such a neat car!!

I took the opportunity to take my 89 Formula 350 Convertible to the Trans Am Nationals, I put about 500 ish miles on it, considering it just turned 39,000 miles it was a tough decision... Normally I take my 87 yellow Formula, but this time I decided to go a little different. I did not have the car judged however in my opinion it showed really well, for an all original car I was able to clean it up really nice, better than I ever imagined with the original paint, interior and engine. Before the show I ended up painting the rear ASC conversion pieces because they were just Florida sun beat, the other panel which has been painted was the Drivers rear quarter and I do not know why it was, I get behind the interior plastics and there is no damage whatsoever.

I have mulled over making this trip, 600 miles one way for me. Only 2 ASC convertibles, John, that is sad. I've got a new '22 GMC Sierra with the 6.2/10 speed, find me a trailer and I may need to head that way!

just a few things I want to mention…first of all not sure of the significance of the 1 of 104 on the license plate. 50 5.7L GTA Trans Ams were converted to convertibles by ASC.
Also, on the door there should be a sticker that says in big letters “ASC”.
And lastly, it was my understanding that all of the conversions had the push button controls on the steering wheel.
these convertibles are hard to authenticate because GM in their wisdom decided to not keep track of which VINs were sent to ASC for conversion. Otherwise we could just pull out our VIN number and voila!…and I understand that a number of GTAs were converted years later by their owners and they tried to pass them off as an authentic 1989 GTA/ASC Trans Am Convertible.
not sure if yours was one of them…it really doesn’t matter either way. If you love your car you love your car. But you should look into further authentication of your car.
There were more than 50 1989 GTA convertibles made with the 5.7L engine. That 50 number has been known to be bogus for decades.
The 1989 GTA with the new for 1989 RPO U1A CD player did not come with the steering wheel radio controls because the CD player didn't support them. They came with a leather wrapped version of the 4 spoke steering wheel that came in the other 1989 Firebirds.
There was an ASC label in the door jamb of the car but there were no ASC identification labels, decals, stickers, or emblems anywhere else on the cars.

1) 157 GTA's and Trans Am 350 Convertibles in 89. Estimate 15-20 of those were non GTA Trans Ams
2) I can authenticate 325 of the 330 1989 Firebird Convertibles. I have the list from ASC for those cars converted.

The Red Light is a European fog lamp. Car was exported when new.
