Nicer looking overflow tank?
My coolant overflow is dirty and old and I was hoping to find a different style one and hide it a bit more. Has anyone done this before? I'd love to see pictures.

Ok bear with me here. This pic is showing my engine bay. But you can just see it up in front of the radiator support.

Damn firebirds have the popup headlights right there. Are those tanks sealed? If so does that cause pressure problems? If not does it evaporate? I'm not sure how the stock bottle works so I want to make sure I don't cause a pressure problem. Also, how many quarts is the stock one. Its a DD so I'm trying to avoid causing any problems. Thats one NICE looking engine bay. I love the red strut plates (?).

Oh right, I def ofrgot about the headlights.
It is not sealed. This is how the stock one is. They are all unsealed.
It hold a lot, dunno how much but i made sure it will be a little bit on the high side and be safe.
It really doesn't eveporate. coolant takes forever to evaporate. And this is even a more efficent system than stock. The stock one has an open cap kinda set up. So the coolant can evaporate a lot easier (also closer to heat). Mine has a tiny little petcock opening on top that is very small. That lets it breath. The hose goes from the Radiator to the bottom of the tank. And the top of the tank is left open, and has a 90 degree end on it.

Wow.. Wish my engine bay looks so clean and purtty lol.. Yea I have one of those summt bottles to in my camaro.. Alot nicer than the stock one.. and tons cheaper to replace than buying a new OEM tank.... And Mine was metal... so it should last a bit longer than that nasty brittle plastic thing i used to have.

Yeah, the metal ones look really nice too. My engine bay is just coated in POR-15. Great stuff.
I plan on hiding the overflow with a plastic cover later too. 100%hidden. I will post pics later when I get to that step.

My main concern is if my car overheats I'm worried about blowing a hose or something like that. I mean ALOT of pressure can build up. I've had the lid of my overflow tank pop right off.

Wow.. the lids are supposed to be vented as so no pressure can really build in them. Because if your lid popped off (mine screws on my other camaro (it is still stock), then you must be getting a great deal of pressure. In mine the tank would explode before the lid popped off.. (I have had one of the vac ***** implode on me before and that was a big enough mess, having a bottle explode with coolant in it would be a Giant mess. especially if you are in a city that likes to hand out pollution tickets for things like that. (Mine does and that is why i will be replaceing all my overflow tanks).
And For Por 15 that still looks about 200% better than my bay lol.. I like that Aftermarket Tube K-member as well.. I have been thinking about doing that myself.. But not until I get an Ls1 or LS6 engine.

Hmmmmmm, does it say cooland overflow or anything like that. It should not be sealing the overflow at all. The overflow should be able to breath, easily.
All the overflow does is fill up as the cooland expands with temp, then gets sucked back in the radiator as it cools. Thats all.
These set ups work just as a stock set up would. The pressure buildup should be in the radiator, and the motor, thats it.
The cap allows for pressure in one area and not the other.
Hope this helps

Well thats my concern: it needs to breathe yet it only has a petcock at the top. I'm not sure what I'll do. But the whole point is to hide it, not just replace it with the same style.

Yeah, when I said petcock, I might need to explain better. it is just an open tube with barbs. And I do not attach anything to it. It hasa 90 angle to it, with relation to the bottle. So it is looking sideways. while the bottle is vertical. but the there is nothing on it. It lets the system breath 100%.

When I think petcock I think small diameter. The stock lid is atleast 1.5" across and I had fluid pushing it off becuase the pressure increased before it could equalize out into the atmosphere.
