antifreeze and over heating

i have a 2002 chevy cavilier. it done fine til i changed the antifreeze in it. it started running hot. i bled the air out of the bypass hose. i left the car running when i bled the air out. i do not understand why it is now running hot. am i correctly bleeding the air out?

Bleed the air out?

While the car is running, rev the car up to 3 grand then keep topping off the radiator until you can't get anymore in there. Sounds like an air pocket right now, nothing serious but definitely would cause overheating.

i had been letting the resivoir get to empty and it was letting air in . once i made sure it stayed full while i bled the air it fixed it.
