Ok here it is a 87 305 tpi 700r4 trans. rebuilt the 305 all new stock parts with roller rocker arms underdrive pulley's AFR edelbrock water pump header's flow master cat back b cool rad fex lite daul fans it has stock fan switch and 195 thermostat all new hose's did the bypass on the throttle body the problem I have is it is getting hot on the freeway and the street driving need some more idea's please

 

Do you have an air dam? Also did you underdrive the water pump too? Fan switch? Somethings gotta be seriously wrong i dont know how your overheating in november i think maybe you underdrove the water pump too much, but if its overheating on the thruway then thats usually due to a missing air dam

 

Id put a 180 stat in there too, i think 195 is the stock spec, get a lower fan switch too, how hot is it running? How much antifreeze is in there, id test that too.

 

freeway driving you should be running cool mang... check the airdam make sure the thermostat is opening properly the autozone cheapos have some problems. i had 3 bad ones in a row at one point.... also make sure your tv cable on the tranny is set up properly... too loose and it will slip at higher speeds and heat up. there are alos 2 strips that seal the edge of the a/c condenser so more air flows straight through to the radiator then around the sides. if the seals have deteriorated you can pull the condenser and replace them with stick on weather stripping or you can just put 5/8" heater hose in its place by just pushing it into the groove from the front. if all that is good there should be no reason your engine overheats.

 

In addition to the underdrive pully (which slows the water pump down), and air dam (which you need to deflect the air to the radiator), how is your radiator?

You did not mention that it is new or "flushed" which is a good idea if you rebuild the engine. The rebuilt engine should be clean and flowing the coolant well, but if the radiator is clogged none of the above will help.

Amazing how the coolant temp dropped on my truck after the radiator went (which was clogged like you would not believe).

 

I would check the thermostat first, then flush the entire system a few times. And then put in a cooler fan switch along with a 180 degree stat. If that does not cool it you have a serious problem. Thats the exact combo that cools my 383 to a constant 190 degrees all day even in the summer heat!

 

yes I have air damn and it is a new b cool rad only used 1 galon of anti freeze in the whole system

 

Id get a new fan switch that switches on at about 210 or so i forget the exact temp, and get a 180 stat, also id put back the original pulley on the water pump. All that should help significantly. How hot is it getting? Around what temp is your fan kicking on?
