Fan- Help!, makes no sense
Thought I had the single fan worked out except for having to replace the fan switches every couple of years!*#?? While getting smogged, the guy noticed it wasn't coming on so I arranged for him to get me a Delco one since they seem to last the longest and he has a lift and I don't. After two in a row coming on at around 160 and never going off unless I parked it for a couple hrs, I finally got a Jet one from Summit figuring that would help. This one is doing the same thing!!!. I verified the gauge temps by measuring the rad, thermostat neck and rad hose with a laser thermometer and it backed up the gauge. Driving around town, I barely got the thermostat to open, but then the fan came on and it closed again. It only opened when I stopped for a bit and it was able to warm up some. I'm driving around at about 160 degrees temp and my fan is still on! This makes no sense. How in the world can this happen? Is it time to give up and get a fan controller? Appreciate any help you can give. This is driving me nuts!!

I never liked them - that's why I swapped for a seperate fan controller. Every single type/brand/price of fan switch I puit in the block failed one way or another. I'm really surprised so many folks here deal with the stupid things at all. I know I'll never go back.

Does yours, or do you know if most all of them let you set the on and off temps, or do you just set the on temp and it goes down 10 or 15 degrees before shutting off? Starting to seem like a good idea, this makes no sense at all???

On mine I set the on temp, and it's off temp is like 10-15 degrees lower than whatever I set as on temp. I love it myself. I'm running the Flex-a-lite $100 one (forget the model number).

Re: Fan- Help!, makes no sense
Yeah, thanks. I've been looking at the ones Summit has and was thinking about the Derale one somebody asked about on here recently. I've only got one fan and simple needs fanwise. How could so many switches be consistantly bad in the same way? That really makes me think there must be something else going on, but I can't see what. Oh well?
