leak....

not sure if this is the right place to post this question, if not im sorry, and feel free to move it

anyways here it goes-

was driving the camaro (89 with a swapped in 358, holley 750, borg warner T5) on the highway around 60mph and heard a loud noise (sounded like it was trying to downshift) i pulled it out of gear and slowed down a bit, put it back into 5th and drove on, and now it sounds like there is an exhaust leak? (just had the headers welded in, bad i know, and new gaskets about 3 weeks ago) also when i pulled over i noticed one of my spark wires popped off the spark plug and was melted all the way through against the header, and i now have a pretty bad coolant leak comming from behind the crankshaft pulley, well actually around what i would call the accessory case, its definetly coolant and leaking bad.... any clue what could be the issue? also when the plug wire melted it fried my battery so just put a new battery in and im splicing together some new 8MM wires right now but dont know where to start on the leak, is there a gasket behind the accesory case that could be bad?

thanks in advance for any help!

Re: leak....

I would get a mirror and look at the weep hole under the water pump. the only ares it can leak in that area is the water pump, the water pump bolts , lower radiator hose , or higher from a bypass hose or cracked block.

Re: leak....

use liquid teflon on all four water pump bolts when you go back together.

Re: leak....

If that is your pulley setup its the 85-87 standard rotation long water pump.

Re: leak....

Looks like it would work too me. it has a duel pattern for the different small block pulley setups. it says not for serpentine witch would indicate its standard rotation. c4 vettes were short reverse rotation with a heater hose outlet.

Re: leak....

finally found some time to go out and work on her, got the old pump out and i am pretty sure it was the problem, all the mounting bolts were VERY loose, and the gaskets are pretty bad, looks to me like it was leaking down into the timing cover and than leaking out the bottom, which is why i thought it was leaking by the CS pulley, have not put the new pump in ran out of daylight but it looks like an exact match so thanks for double checking and looking at it! hope to have it in sometime tomorrow

Re: leak....

don't forget to run it until the car warms up and the thermostat opens with the radiator cap off too bleed out the air in the system.

Installed this same pump last summer when I caught my stocker leaking from the weep hole. You won't be disappointed.
