I ordered cooling fan controller derale 16749

So 16759 comes with pipe threaded probe. Can i install this one? Is there a place in block or heads for it?
Please let me know or should I exchange it?

can this be installed in driver side block where the plug(drain) is?
Anybody can help me figure out what will be the best place to install it?

 

If thread is wrong for installation into a head,thermostat
housing would be a good place if it could be drilled and
tapped to accept the sender.The block drain is an area
that is fairly cool and i'd say ill-suited as a place to put
the sender

 

I found this radiator hose adapter which i think i will get it. what do you think.I am also trying to keep my engine bay clean from extra wires so i am looking for place to do clean installation.

A "T"adaptor in the upper radiator hose would work
nicely-if you have a custom radiator with aluminum
tanks,you could weld a bung into the LH "hotside"tank
of the radiator for the fan sender.The only car i have
with an electric radiator fan,'71 saab,has the fan
thermostat in the "cool"side of the radiator-i don't
really like that arrangement as it makes the fan cycle
on and off a lot,but it does get the job done so "cool"
side/RH tank may work ok if a bung is handy...

The propose of this switch is to run secondary fan ( I upgraded from single) which I operate by switch (on off) right now.Car run always below 200* and i want that switch to come one around 180*-190* and come off at 160-170 and also to cool down the engine while is ignition off too.I have read some people installing even sender in lower radiator hose.
So what will be the right spot for sender then.

where do you have the primary sender installed?

 

Stock location (passenger side)

 

Thermostat housing would be my first choice followed by
the upper then lower radiator hoses-lower radiator hose
will be carring coolant already cooled by the radiator so
you will have to use a fairly low temp fan switch for that
location,perhaps 160*,but i have never checked to see
what temp the coolant typicaly runs there VS the upper
hose.

 

Seem like allot of work when you can have the radiator probe and be done with it "BUT" Chevy makes this water neck . ,I don't know what year its from but if the threaded hole is right i don't see any reason it would not work.

 

I would like to keep engine bay clean ( by reducing of running extra wires and plugs).I know I can get that one with probe in radiator but I am thinking about how well that probe sit in radiator fins and about vibration.

 

I don't know if they are still made,but i once used a
capillary tube type thermal switch(made by flexalite)
to replace the FUBAR original fan controll circuit on an
'89 2.8 firebird;just took the upper radiator hose off,
inserted the sensing bulb,putting a little silicone
sealer around the capillary tube to ensure a good seal
and reinstalled the hose.Adjusted the thermal switch
to turn the fan on at about 210*and all was good
Could be hidden out of veiw pretty easy too.

 

IMO, the water neck with a sensor sticking out the top looks strange,I would not do it.
If you just want the stock fan to be set at a lower temp. they make direct replacement sensors that simply replace the old stock one in the stock location.
If you want it to be adjustable than replace the stock sensor in the stock location with your new one.
If you do decide to remove the stock sensor I would spray it with PB Blaster penetrating oil once or twice to make it a easier job,also have a catch can ready because you may loose some coolant as you swap the two.

 

look between the rear cylinders on the passenger side of the head and install it in there. if you have to put it in a hose put it in the upper radiator hose. lower hose ( cooled coolant back to engine) upper hose ( hot coolant from engine).
