Coolant temp sensor question

Trying to find out what is the correct sensor or I guess the correct connection for the sensor on the intake . The current sensor I puchased from autozone is oval shaped with 2 prongs inside and can I don't even see any wire connector that would even fit that sensor type . Does anyone have a good part number or even an image of it . Tx for any info

Re: Coolant temp sensor question

the temp sensor is located on the intake manifold, near the water outlet housing front of the engine. (typically)

take off the wire an look at the connections

Re: Coolant temp sensor question

The coolant temp sensor has had several variations in the connector over the years. Most of them were total crap; the worst being the first, which was a sort of coaxial looking round thing. Not sure what your 86 would have come with; may have depended on what engine was originally in it.

The one you bought is the most modern, robust, and reliable design. It SHOULD HAVE had a pigtail in the box with it to enable it to easily replace all the inferior ones. Since it evidently didn't, go back to the store and trade it for one that does, or get em to take th epigtail out of another one.
