ac an a 86
i wanna restore the ac system on my 86 LG4. i have the hoses that go to the compressor, the condenser, the accumulator, and the evaporator, and belt. i need the compressor but was told i also need a bracket. this is a pic of my engine can somebody show me what this bracket looks like so i can hunt one down on ebay

The missing bracket lays over the top of the compressor, like the mirror image of the alternator bracket only larger. You'll need the brackets on the compressor, and the support bar that comes back to the exhaust manifold too.
Junkyard would be the best bet, any 80's SBC V8 should have the same accessory drive.

i ordered that bracket kit seen in the ebay listing but it appears all i need is the adjuster bracket and support brace so ill have a bunch of unused parts since my power steering is already mounted.
still its the only one i could find online, i never thought to check here and local junkyards are slim picking for third gens, or carb cars for that matter
does this bracket set mount a pancake style compressor?
Also unrelated but what is the thread size on the thermostat housing side for the TVS? My EFE system is gone and I wanna remove the broken switch and replace it with one of those allen head plugs

just picked up a compressor from a scrapped Trans Am also picked up an evaporator since i just noticed the damn PO chopped the lines off the one in the car so now ill have to put that in. paid 25.00 for both and grabbed the hard line to the condenser off ebay since i tried to get one of those but somebody already robbed the condenser from the scrap car and also chopped the line.
why cant people just use a wrench and remove line the right way?

when i pulled the compressor i grabbed all the wiring/connectors with it to replace the wiring in my car but i cannot find what these connectors do in my service manual. one connector has a solid green and black wire with a diode (pic 1) second connector has green and white stripe wire and a blue with black stripe wire (pic 2). i grabbed the parts off a TPI car does that make a difference?
i looked on ebay and see the connector in pic 2 is a high pressure switch and says its for TPI/TB applications so is it safe to say i dont need this connector?

Some applications use the second switch, some don't. Most of the time, the compressor will have a plug retained by a snap ring in place of the switch if it's an application that doesn't use the switch.
Instead of plugging the thermostat housing, you could get a housing from a TBI car, or have your local parts store get you one for a vintage SBC application (say 1969 Camaro) that doesn't have the ports. It looks like your coolant temp sensor is in the thermostat housing now, assuming the threads are the same, you should be able to screw it into the intake in place of the other emissions switch. Just a suggestion, do your due diligence before jumping into it, but it should clean things up a lot.

it has no pressure switch here just a valve i assume is for evacuation.
second and third pics show the compressor i got from the scrap Trans Am. i did not get the year of this Trans Am because the doors were gone but it was a TPI car
it has the switch on the back, but every reman compressor i look at on ebay has a plug in that spot. i searched the part number on the junkyard compressor and im told on Autozone's site it will fit my car
last pic shows the reman compressor i found with the plug in place of the switch

Yes I have one of those, and have used it for my brakes but they don't list part numbers for the AC compressor and high pressure lines

Well can you take a look at what the part numbers are for the compressor, and high pressure line? Also if the line has high pressure switch?

So I think I might have found my answer. I found some diagrams in my service manual and they do not show a high pressure switch in either the compressor or line and it say code H which is what I have so is it possible they just didn't incorporate that technology into my AC setup for 1986?
