Re: NEW adapter board for megasquirtII to 86-88 tpi cars
ok, i've plugged MSII into harness and with configured MegaTune wanted to burn settings to it, MegaTune does see MSII, it does succesfully confirms connection; but Battery indicator states Battery LOW, and when i oppened VoltGauge in MSII is shows 0V i'm wondering if its something wrong with adapter or MSII or is it some sort of setting that i don't know about ??

So with this adapter board, what is the best ignition circuit to use? (Hall or VR)

Re: NEW adapter board for megasquirtII to 86-88 tpi cars
first thing is i must say i'm such a dumbass, when i fiered a car i thought i started it with MSII but i was wrong - i asked my brother to connect MS to harness and hide it begind the dash, but i havn't checked that and after a day i found it was stock ECM - he didn't know which one is which and he choosed stock one without asking, so i replaced it with MSII and wanted to start with it, but it wouldn't so i opened Megatune and checked what is going on when cranking, and it is not cranking, RPM gauge shows 0, all others show values except this one, cranking indicator shows "No Cranking", after suggestions from Toehead i checked if jumpers for ignition but they are ok, all settings in MT seem to be ok - checked by Matt Cramer, he suggested to remove Pin B on ignition module and check if i get spark so will do this, but maybe any other ideas what to check ??

ok as Matt Cramer asked, with pin B no spark at all, with removed - car starts without any problem (except it needs a bit of tuning), what do i need to do or replace to make it work with pin B connected ??
i especialy bought TPI adatper to avoid doing any wiring

Matt from DIYautotune is working to support this issue with background support from myself. Today being Canada Day most folks are enjoying our national holiday.
It appears that the HEI module is not getting a timing reference.

I'd expect we'll get an update from Wasyl/Matt tomorrow. Friday was a day off for most folks in the US and I think DIYautotune was closed.

Re: NEW adapter board for megasquirtII to 86-88 tpi cars
hey guys... sorry i've been out of the loop for so long. just completed a retarded 8 month project at work so i get to have more normal hours again. i've been fighting with my car trying to get a tune to work when i decided to slap my other computer back in and discovered there is actually something wrong with my car. hoping within the next week to have it running well again so i can get back to the megasquirt.
perhaps i misunderstood an earlier post, but with the vss not passed through on this board, will my speedo and cruise control not work?

Re: NEW adapter board for megasquirtII to 86-88 tpi cars
The 86-89 ecm has a vss input but the processing/conversion etc. is done elsewhere - you might want to verify this I think its done by the DRAC module. So your speedo/cruise should still work. The later ECM's (7730)integrated this function.

Re: NEW adapter board for megasquirtII to 86-88 tpi cars
I have some questions concerning this mod(adapter). I have an 87' TPI setup. It's MAF regulated and some parts are modified. I will soon be running forced induction(suerpcharger, moderate boost). To be specific. This is a plug and play setup? I get the ECM which is basically(rebuilt) to megasquirt specs and Download the software and tune it accordinlgly? I was away from the car stuff, so alot has escaped me, but im getting back on it. I'm located in New York and if the product works as I think it does, I'm interested. How much for the complete kit and what's included? What do I need to send and how do I go about information? Thanks

This is a plug and play setup? The adapter board allows you to plug a Megasquirt into your factory harness without have to chop the harness up.
I get the ECM which is basically(rebuilt) to megasquirt specs and Download the software and tune it accordinlgly? << Not quite - the megasquirt replaces the GM ECM outright.
You either buy a pre-built megasquirt or a kit which you assemble. Then you download the tuning s/w (free) and install a tune up for the TPI application - then fine tune from there. More than one person has a TPI car running on MS so you can get a starting tune from them.

ok a small update on what is going on, Matt Cramer found out that even when adapter is used some of aftermarket ignition modules won't work so there is still need to make this circuit with relay
i've done it yesterday evening and it works, once again thanks for every one for help and special thanks for efi-diy for making this adapter and all the support he gave

which after market ignition module are you using?

Re: NEW adapter board for megasquirtII to 86-88 tpi cars
What we found out is some HEI ignition modules won't fire during cranking unless they are on fixed timing. Quick test for this with the MS installed if it won't start unplug the set timing connector.
The fix for this is to wire the ECM connector pin C9 to the starter solenoid circuit that is hot only in crank position via a 1 amp fuse. It was easier for Wasyl to wire an external relay than find/reuse an extra ECM terminal - kind of hard to come across in Poland.

Just a quick question..
To use the Fidle port to control a fan you would jumper C1 (fan) to A2
Is A2 used?

The fast idle output is connected to C1 - A2 is not used.

Hi all,
New to the board. I'm using a '7730 ECM on an LA1 3400, so looking for that adapter with keen interest. Any thoughts on using the new microsquirt module: http://www.microsquirt.com/viewtopic.php?t=23315? for this app? I won't need the speedo or cruise functions, but understand that many will. thnx!

Hey guys. Does anyone know if it matters that the donor ECM is a 1228747 or 1227747? I'm not sure what the difference is.
*** OOps, nevermind. I just read earlier in this thread that the 7747 ECU is recommended.*******
Thanks.

Re: NEW adapter board for megasquirtII to 86-88 tpi cars
I guess I should introduce myself to this thread. I've been on this site since 1999 but I don't post much. Lately I'm getting some interest back for my car and I've decided to get more serious about it. I've done cam, heads, LT1 intake, headers and maunal trans swap but I never really addressed the ECM. Before I did the trans and intake swap I did have a ""custom"" chip made for me but driveability was never good. So now I'm going to do the megasquirt. A few days ago I finished the install of the LC-1 wideband. Over the last few days I've been driving the car around and watching the AFR's. Man, are they messed up. I've decided to do the TPI adapter board with the MS. I already ordered the parts from DigiKey and it cost about $8 plus shipping. I didn't purchase the Q2 transistor because I have a manual trans. My next move is to order the TPI adapter board and the "7747" donor ECM. I will let you guys know how it goes. Hey Efi-Diy do you work for DIYAutotune?

I'm not sure. I haven't thought of that yet. I might use the megasquirt MAP for barometric correction and then rewire the leads for the MAF to a MAP mounted on the intake.

I also have one that works. I cut a hole into the ecm case and firewall for the map line. Also had to set the ignition output to falling edge.

I can see where it can seem intimidating but assembling this board is really a piece of cake. Just make sure you have a soldering iron with a small tip and some small diameter solder. Like someone else said, the hardest part is liberating the donor ECM connector. I used a solder sucker tool and desoldering braid.

I usually install the MAP sensor on top the MS 3.0 main board and drill a hole to get the line in. Just make sure you use 2 wire ties to stabilize the hose as the MAP sensor can't be screwed to the board.

Re: NEW adapter board for megasquirtII to 86-88 tpi cars
Another approach would be to feed the VSS into a GM DRAC module to run the speedo rather than have the adapter board take care of this function.
Comments.. ?? It would mean wiring up the DRAC module separate from the MS install.

I have an 870 ecm I would like to convert to megasquirt will a 746 ecm work with the adapter board?
There are already post about repinning to convert the 870 to a 165 that is ok to me. I would like to use the 746 ecm I already have as the donor for the adapter board.
