Please Help how do I fix?

At almost 41 years old I bought the T/A I wanted in high school. So I'm a car guy but I'm old school. So This TPI stuff is killing me. I'm trying to learn this stuff. What I have are 3 codes and a car that runs like crap. The codes I have are TPS LOW -TPS HIGH and MAF LOW. The guy I bought it from installed a new MAF and a NEW TPS. The plug for the TPS broke so he cut it off and installed a new one using butt connectors I have since soldered the connections and shrinktubed them. I have bought an ALDL cable and am using the Datamaster program retrieve the codes. I am not sure on what to look at first since both of these items are new. Could I possibly have a bad ECM? What should I look at first? PLEASE HELP.

I would start by checking your TPS voltage, heres a link to a great guide on how its done.

ok checked and adjusted the TPS. I cleared the codes, the car doesn't want to idle until it warms up now.And I'm not showing any codes. After it warms up it idles but it surges still no SES light or codes. After running for about 15 minutes I shut the car off for about 2 minutes, then started it again now it doesn't want to idle but the car is warm. Any ideas

Try cleaning the IAC and adjusting the idle. Heres links to that same site.

How do you know if the IAC is bad? Had it out to clean it. Didn't make a difference.

Im having a very similar issue but mine involves my speedometer too. When my IAC went bad there was no check engine light, the cars RPM's stayed at around 2500 in both drive and park and pretty much drove itself, without my foot on the pedal the car would go at least 25mph. Without the ECM setting codes its pretty hard to diagnose whats causing the problems and throwing parts at it can get expensive.

Re: Please Help how do I fix?

Odd if you are getting no codes, yet running so rough.

I would pull the dizzy cap. Check the rotor & the cap itself. Both good?

Start with the basics. Start pulling pugs & check to see how clean they are/if they are gapped good, etc.

While your pulling plugs, I would start checking the plug wires themselves, seeing if every plug is actually firing good & on every stroke.

You should be able to pull or push on it with moderate force.
If it didn't move at all you should pull it off and get it freed up.

Re: Please Help how do I fix?

The tune up is done, still no change. The IAC is out I've pushed and pulled and it doesn't move. So is it bad? and if it would move how far in and out should it move?
