Desolder your eprom off the carrier... Solder in a zif socket.. order a eeprom... You can download your 86 car bin.. purchase or have a friend with a pocket programmer or equivalent burn the eeprom
Now you can tune your parameters to suit your needs... With cats... Or equivalent

Good luck with that. I just called Local Auto Zone and they said that they submit the order to Cardone re-manufacturing and it usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to see if it is available. Most times it is not. Notice: the part number is the same for all proms and chips. The Store said they always refer customers to the car manufacturer because they almost never can provide the correct prom or chip. Direct from Auto Zone store managers mouth less than 5 minutes ago.

Re: where to buy a new prom

and the site requests the numbers off your prom if you read it

" Requires OE or Broadcast number that consists of four letters and four numbers to identify correct Prom for Style 1 and Style2. See part number image for type identification and location of OE or Broadcast number."

"SPECIAL ORDER
Ships within 3-5 business days."

My information is correct but go ahead and waste your time if you want. Why on earth would they sell a memcal that is not made any more and worth $300+ on GM's site for $69.99. The Store manager said he gets 2 -3 order requests a week and they never get filled because there are no old Memcals of the right code that can be re-manufactured. All they do is reprogram the memcal and test it. Just where do you think they get them from? He says the ones that do come through are usually not the correct item. But be my guest, give people the hope that by some miracle they can get them from an auto parts store.

By the way, the store manager said If I wanted to order today, and IF Cardone had one, then it would be delivered by March 14th. Not exactly 3-5 business days.

the store gets them in march, the website is different, why? idk, maybe that store manager doesn't know what he's doing, because gm stopped making them doesn't mean they aren't made by other companies, and in reality it cost them jack to have them made, old 80s tech, really? easily reproduced and easily flashed. it cost them pennies on the dollar. i bought the ecm from advace with a coupon, after core $38... so yea, easily produced.

"because there are no old Memcals of the right code that can be re-manufactured" who makes hypertechs if they cant be reproduced?

Hmm; I do this for a living. I think I know the market pretty well. $38 dollars for the 165 ECM after core with coupon, Yeah I can see that, but $69 for a newly rebuilt TPI memcal? keep on dreaming. There is NO other company that makes them, that's the point.

The guy is looking for help and answers not arguments so that's it, I'm leaving it alone.
