OBD1 Code Help?

So, I recently got a pair of Pacesetter headers installed on my 1989 2.8 RS. I diagnosed the error code and received 'Error 32', it talks about the Barometric Pressure Switch and the EGR, but it doesn't really tell me what to fix.

Anyone have any experience with this issue? What can I do to fix it? I hate seeing that darn Check Engine light.

Re: OBD1 Code Help?

Does the Pacesetter headers have the EGR stalk to mount it? GM tests the EGR function is various ways, not sure how they did it on the '89 MPFI model.

Yes it does, adjacent to the passenger side head. Very readily accessible. Do you think I just need to replace it along with the gasket?

Re: OBD1 Code Help?

Did the code start before or after the headers where installed?

Re: OBD1 Code Help?

Never once had a check engine light before the headers were installed. I've since discovered in the meantime that they broke my oil sensor and cracked my power steering bracket, so I'm not surprised this is having an issue as well.

Strangely, it's not a consistent issue. Sometimes it doesn't happen, other times it turns on right away.

Re: OBD1 Code Help?

It may be due to a lack of exhaust back pressure. If so a different type of EGR valve may fix the error.

Re: OBD1 Code Help?

Your thread on the V6 board here shows that the EGR solenoid doesn't have the vacuum line connected to it. Fix that and the code will likely go away. Easy fix.
