7730 setup on a BBO

Im curious as to what it would take to adopt a TPI system onto a Big Block Olds 455... What I was thinking is take a victor intake, setup some injector bungs on it, and run some big injectors.

Im just wondering if it would be possible, and if so, what would have to be dont to the computer to run the setup? Would it have to be completely done, or could I just run a bin, and tweak it to fit the cars needs?

If anyone has insight into the idea, please, share with me.

I think it would be a really interesting project, but want to make sure it wouldnt be easier/cheaper to go with an aftermarket setup from the go...

Thanks in advance for any input

the hardest part would be the ignition, and since olds had an HEI distributor you could just wire in a computer-controlled GM ignition module to the existing coil and pickup, and bolt it to the distributor. other than that, and figuring out your fuel system(injector bungs, fuel rail, etc), it would be pretty well plug and play(and tune, of course). there have been guys on the diy-efi.org site that have run similar things, might want to check there too. good luck, sounds like a cool project!

Hey, thats about what I was figuring on as well. If I can adapt the ignition as you say, then yeah...It could be a great project.
Thanks for the input!

There's a 71 Olds Cutlass, not sure of the engine, that used a Caddy intake (Port), TB (TBI looking), and a 730.
He used a later distributor, that had the ecm controlled stuff in it.
It all looked almost oem.

Interesting... You wouldnt happen to have any more information, or know of where I could come by more information about that car?

I was thinking about using a Holly 4 Barrel TB, but would I be able to use something like a 454 TBI TB. Think that would work, or would it choke the engine out too much?

As Im sure you can tell, its something I want to do without going completely broke.

Any other input on the idea?

Is this a race car, or just a cruiser?.

500 ft/lb of torque, would take being real clever. There are some SS454 Truck Board (s), that the guys have used some modified TBIs on for some decent HP.

i do belive any of the clcc c3 seires 307 v8 olds distributors will fit the 455. these engines can be found in all sort of fullsize chevy cars espcially wagons.anyay i think that dizzy will fit. youve got it nailed on the manifold. bung in a stock dual plane would work really well or even a victor etc. As for a tB. check out some of the 454 stuff or break down and get an accel 4bbl TBI. with an iac provision i think there down to around $500 now.

Thats all i can add man sorry.

PS the old's dizy spins counter clockwise so no other brand will work.

Its just a cruiser... But looking to make something in the range of 500 ft/lb of torque.

I will most likely just go with an aftermarket TB, that way I wont have to really worry about it.

Ill also go and check out some of the 454SS boards, see what I can find for info there...

Thanks again for the input, its good to hear that this is a possibility.

I guess I should chime in and help here. Frozen Firebird was asking for me. The car is going to be mostly cruiser. I'm looking to make about 400+hp and 500+Ftlbs. It is a 455 Olds and it will be hooked to a T-56.

I thought about the 307 distributor, so I guess I'll have to go take a look at one. As for the throttle body, I was thinking the Accel one as well. I just wanted to know if that would work with the TPI system. I'm going to use a Torker intake or something similar in an Offy.

What kinda limitations am I looking at with this system, or is bigger injector and throttle body going to work ok?

I don't really know anything about these fuel injection systems, I have been getting all my help through Frozen, so any help you guys can give us would be great.

Thanks for your time guys.

Ahhh, good to see you stopped by Olds Man.

Looks like we may be in luck, and this might just work out!

Should be a fun, and interesting project to work on!
