interior electrical is dead, why?

This is a new problem for me. I was having trouble w/ a power window switch, and i was messing with it with the car running when it arced and killed the car. I tried to restart it, and I have nothing inside and no power to the starter. I ran a hot wire to the distributor, and jumped across the solenoid and it started perfectly, but i have nothing that requires the key to provide electrical power. I replaced the ignition switch on the column, but still nothing. Is it a fusible link somewhere or what? I am so stumped, i dont wanna have to put in a push button starter and stuff, it just dont do my purple beast any justice. It is an 84 Z28, 305 h.o. with 4bbl. carb. I hope someone has some idea and can help me out. :hail:

Had same problem

The two wires at the starter that are orange or red need to have charge or the whole interior, everything is dead. Make sure they are connected and getting charge at the solenoid. If they are not getting charge it could be a blown fusible link or the starter wire from the battery (large black) is not connected to them well they are also on a fusible link so make sure they are getting charge after the link or that is the problem. If you have a voltmeter check before and after the link.

thanx a billion for your help folks. i would have never figured it out. It worked like a charm. now the purple petrol eater is back on the road and running strong. One of the wires was burned in half and the other wire had the bad fusible link. You guys are awesome. :hail: I bow to you all as you are ***'s to me!
