Pass-Key problems, I think?

I recently bought a '91 RS which was not running, got a geat deal. Problem is I cannot solve the problem. The owner had pulled out the resistor key and it was hanging under the dash. The ignition key is now a non-resister.
The engine would not crank, I bypassed the starter lockout selenoid. Now it cranks, will start on starting fluid, won't stay running. I don't think the injectors are firing.
I thought it was the signal from the Pass-key module to the ECM for fuel pump control. One schematic I found showed that line being taken to ground. (A6 on the ECM) I tried gounding that line, still won't fire. Another document says that the signal is a pulse modulated one coming from the Pass-key decoder module. If that is the case how can I get around this? Or do I just need to install a resistor type key back in the ignition?
I seem to recall a guy asking a question like this a month or two ago, anyone remember that? If its been asked and answered already, point me to it in the archives please.
I thought I was pretty good with electrical, but this Pass-key system is kicking my butt!

I have done further research and I think I have the info I need. I will put a resistor key back in, the problem is the wire running up the column is gone, don't know where I will find that. Can I wire this up myself to the new key switch, anything special about those wires?
I would like to get VATS bypassed just to be sure the car runs and the drive train is OK. If anyone could email me the appropriate resistance values, I can handle the rest.
I do have another question though. I was looking behind the dash on the passenger side, there are two boxes mounted right behind the plastic panel. One is a silver metal box, looks kind of like a small ECM with a double row electrical connector. The other is a yellow plastic box with two electrical connectors, one with only 2 wires, the other with about 6. Does anyone know what these two devices are?
Guess this is what I get for buying a car that is not running!
