Electrical Nightmare From Hell
Electrical Nightmare From Hell
this problem has nagged me since ive had the car. I am seriously about to pull my engine and ligt the mother****er on fire. honestly. the battery used to drain all the way down if you didnt drive the car everyday. and the blinkers never worked. now after swapping in an edelbrock carb and intake and everything in my sig - heads - cam, the battery will drain over night or rather a 5 or 6 hours, the windshield wipers stopped working, the radio obviousy doesnt have a constant hot wire hooked up right becuase it loses it memory everytime the car is shut off. i am extremely pissed. i know next to nothing about electrical wiring and things like that. a local shop wanted to charge me 2300 to install a new wiring harness, and i was like **** that. if someone helps me fix it i wont burn it to the ground, if not well that piece of **** can rot in ****ing hell.
Have you tried checking the alternator and the starter yet?
Possibly even could be a bad battery. I would have that checked also.
With the blinkers, do the hazzards work at all?
You could have a short in one or more of the bliner or brake light sockets.
Don't burn the car, I'm sure you can get through this.
I would start checking the blinkers first.
Let me know what you find.

its really hot out right now so i dont feel like ****ing with it anymore till it gets dark, but the only blinker that works is the right rear one, but it doesnt flash, it just turns on. ill pull the the light covers off later and see if im getting juice to all the blinker bulbs. not sure on why it wont flash. as far as the alternator, im not sure if its hooked up right. i have one of the wires thats hooked up to the back post on the alternator running straight to the battery, and one of the wires in the plastic boot running to the battery, and the other one in the boot going back to the post. is this correct? this is the only way i could get it to charge after my intake carb upgrade. the original wiring harness stuff is off to the side of the engine bay and im not sure what wire goes where, but most of them are useless now becuase i dont have any computer controlled stuff in the engine bay. any help is appreciated, i actually filled up my 10 gallon gas can too.

If you are sure your battery is good, you can narrow down which circuit the draw is on by disconnecting the negative cable at the batt., the put a 12v test light inline(between the cable and the batt terminal), if there is a draw(make sure the door is closed or disconnect the door jam switch), the light will light up. If it does light ,(with your explaination, it should,) then start pulling fuses, one at a time, until the light goes out(the radio memory draw is not enough to light the light), then you know which circuit the draw is on, now you need to reinstall the fuse, the light will light up again, now start disconnecting the items on the circuit(you may need a wiring diagram to detemine what is on all on the circuit), the odds are that one device is killing your battery and your other problems may not be related, but first fix the draw and go from there, if you need help, post back
well i got the charging system fixed, i had to reroute my alternator wires, now i just need to fix my blinkers, my wipers work now too. thanks guys ill keep yall updated. car is going to body shop today so i wont be able to mess with it for a while.
