removeing tpi wireing harnesss
hi, ive just bought a rebuilt 350, im going to put it in my 89 trans am GTA. im also going to convert it to carb (from tpi). how do i remove the wireing harness? i have the ecm disconnected and the wires wont budge. theres some kind of clamp on them but i cant remove it. its got black on the top half and gray on the bottom. nothing i try can remove this clamp. i spent an hour and a half just screwing with it. i want all of the tpi wires outa my car, but they all seem to lead to the ecm. do i have to seperate the regular wires from the tpi wires in that big coil? or should i just chop all the wires going to the ecm off and sort them out?
There is a clamp that bolts to the stucture of the car where the harness goes into the interior of the car. It is behind the fender (not accessable from inside the car if memory serves). I had the fender off the car when I removed this, but you might be able to get at it by removing the plastic inner fender panel. If you don't unbolt it were it goes into the car it won't budge. Once you unbolt it from the car it should come out from the engine compartment.

cut!!!!!
well, im about ready to cut the damn thing. it is useless to me anyway, i doubt anyone would buy a used wireing harness that came from a screwed tpi system. mabey i can cut it and solder it back together after its out of the car, all i know is, if takeing off the fender is my only option.... screw it, ill butcher the wires....

wires
ok, atLEAST tell me how many wires should be left in the car. alternater... starter... wipers.... battery wires...... relays? come on, throw me a frickin bone here......
The tpi wiring harness that goes to the computer should not have any part of the starter, alternater, or dash gauges as part of it. Those should all be coming from engine compartment harness which comes from the fuse box and under the dash (drivers side). However, I think that your ignition wiring is all part of the computer... There is a tech article posted on this web site on converting from tpi to carb, I would think that any wiring information you might need would be in there.
Did you trying taking the black plastic inner fender panel off to see if you can unbolt the tpi harness from behind the fender yet?
The inner fender panel is only held on by plastic clips and should not be that difficult to remove by comparison to removing the entire fender.
