140 speedo

Well crappity crap crap. I asked this question moons ago, and was told it was "systems all go". So, I finally went out and bought me a 140 cluster off Ebay.

So, I yank out the old guages and sit patiently for my new babes to come....3 days later, they are here.

HELL YEAH...gonna dump these puppies on in.....woh ho ho...what's this? All electronic? I know, I know

I did scan through about 5 pages worth and didn't really find what I was looking for...my questions are....

The tech article desribes the replacement of the speedo (eh hem..somewhat)...but what about the tach/oil/temp? Do these actually need ALLLL new sending units? If so, anyone want to buy a 140 cluster? This F'ing blows

that bugs me soo bad that its ony 85, mine is that too. I went to junkyard to pull an engine, while I was at it, I looked for speedos, but they only had those crappy ones that show the european on the other side... Do fire birds have that?

I think of all em have metric/american....not 100% sure though. Does anyone know if there is ANOTHER option to ripping out everything? Even going aftermarket for instance? I wouldn't mind putting in a set of VDOs or something...(or at least the speedo). Even though it won't match completly, I realllllllly wanna 140+ speedo

I swapped out my 85 spdo for a 140. You dont need new sensors but you do need to rewire the other guages. The oil pressure and water temp ect. are in a different location on the connectors. I just did a "cut + paste" on the curcuit board. By the way if you get the oil pressure guage from a V6 it goes to 80psi. You will need to change the sender for that.

OK..so just take the board from the old gauges..and overlay it on the new ones?

Thanks for giving me a legit reply...seems they are coming far and few.

If you have any other pointers...lemmie know ;-)

No you can't just change boards. They are completly different. You need to see which pin number is for the oil pressure for example and cut and paste a jumper on the new 140 board to match. Map out the pin-outs for the two connectors on your 85 flex board. On the 140 flex board you will need to make jumpers to connect the signal to the correct pin. So for example if the oil pressure signal comes in on connector #1 pin 11, you will need to make sure it goes to the correct place on the 140 flex board. All the guages are in a different location.
