timing problems

is there anyway to easily check the knock sensor? does the engine still run well if it is disconnected? i'm having trouble with my timing....the ecm isn't advancing the timing enough from 2000 to 4000....the car just stops accelerating in 3rd at about 3000. it seems to hit a wall.....or is it possibly the ignition coil?

humm...

if you dissconnect it your risking trouble because it will correct pings too sensitive to your ear sometimes, type in knock sensor in the general engine search and u should find info.
