ECM Trouble
I tried using the paper click trick to check the engine codes today and I didn't get any codes. I have a carbed 82...I did what the Haynes manual told me, I first turned on the car then stuck the paper clip in. That was the way mentioned for carbed cars, but I also tried it when the car was off then just turning the key. Can anyone help me out, why am I not getting any codes?

Did you have the SES light come on while driving or did you just want to check for codes. Also, which pins did you stick the paper clip in to check the codes. Was it the top two pins on the right side?

Here is a diagnostic troubleshooting chart for your problem, it is out of a 1985 firebird GM service manual and not a Haynes or Chilton's. I would send you the one out of a 1982 manual but I have not received it yet. However this is close enough to give you a general idea of the problem and how to fix it.
